Test came back low positive for herpes

I got tested 3 days after I had sex with this girl and I just got the results back and everything came back negative except for herpes.  He says I tested low-positive (1.1).  He says to get an IGG test in six weeks to see if its oral or genital herpes.  I have always had cold sores since I was a kid so maybe that's why it came back positive, I dunno.  But then there's this; there were 2 small bumps about 1mm in diameter and about 3mm apart from each other on the bottom side of my penis shaft, about 1/2" from the base of the head.  They showed up the same day I got tested.  They only hurt when I squeezed them (sorta like a zit) and they have never itched or burned.  I have never had genital herpes or an outbreak so I don't know what these two bumps really mean.  I just hate having to wait six weeks to find this out just to get some self assurance.  Does this sound like I have herpes or am I just worrying too much?

Does anyone else feel the same way?  I'm sorry this is a long thread, but I've just been freakin out over all of this.  Thanks.

The test that I took was an IGM test, not an IGG test.  From what I hear, the IGM test is really useless anyhow because it can be skewed.  And plus, my ex-girlfriend was the only one I slept with before I had sex with this random girl and she (my ex) got tested about 3 weeks after we had broken up and I called her today to talk about it and she says that all of her tests came back negative.  So if she is negative and my test is showing a 1.1 which means I have had it for a while (i think that's what it means), then there is a small chance that I have genital herpes.  Correct?

What test did you take? If it measured igG then you may have had herpes before this incident.  If it was an IGM test, you may simply have a false positive.  I originally had a positive IGM and negative IGG a couple of weeks after an incident. Retested 3 months later, I still had a negative IGG, therefore negative for herpes.  IGM has lots of false positives, and if you did indeed have an IGM test, my score was even a bit higher than yours.  Get an IGG test (Herpeselect) in 3 months and avoid the IGM.

3 days after sex and only 1.1 is too soon to figure out anything. At this point go back to the clinic and ask for a pcr swab of the lesions on your penis. The sooner you do this the more likely you'll get accurate results.

You will need to repeat your hsv2 igg in another month or two and see what it is and go from there.  A history of hsv1 can cause a false positive so it's worth following up on.

What kind of test did you take? Was it an IgM or an IgG? Even if you have herpes, you 100% had it before your last encounter, b/c antibodies don't show up that quickly. Also, if you had an IgM, then it could be positive due to HSVI, which 70% of the population has (known as oral herpes). THe only way to know for sure is to have an IgG test at 6 weeks, and another at 12 weeks.

Also, does an IGM test specifically for herpes or does it pick up on other viruses that may be in the body.  I just read on here where an IGM test can pick up viruses such as chicken pox, mono, etc. and is not specific to herpes but the IGG is.  Is this true?  I'm just worrying myself to death trying to figure this out since it will be over six weeks till I find the truth.  I appreciate everyone's help.  Thank you.
