Tested clean, but still concerned

by Royce11, Feb 24, 2009 04:52PM
I’m a 28 year old male that was recently tested through LabCorp and all results came back negative or non reactive. I was tested for Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Hep B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, Genital Herpes and HIV. The reason I got tested was because on I noticed 2 small canker looking sores on my penis. One was on the head and the other was on the shaft of my penis. They were very small in size, maybe the size of the tip of a ball point pen or just a little bigger. A day or two later I noticed 3 more appear, 1 appeared about an inch away from the first one on the upper shaft area and the other 2 appeared lower down on the shaft and about ½ an inch or a little less apart from each other. A day or so later I noticed the last one appear at the base of the shaft almost on the scrotum area. I got really nervous about these sores so I went and got tested. They have now started to what appears to be healing, with no signs of any others appearing elsewhere. They kind of dried and scabbed over a bit. I though this was either herpes or syphilis. It kind of fit the description of herpes, but not completely. The sores never seemed to be blisters to me, they were not in small groups or close together, didn’t really itch and where kind of red, but not all that much. My test results put my mind at ease a little, but I am still a little concerned about the sores. I’m wondering if I was tested too early, I noticed the sores on 2/14/09 and was tested on 2/18/09. Could the test possibly be wrong? The herpes results where below the negative reading of 0.91 and not even in the equivocal range, but I’m still concerned. What else could these sores be? What should I do from here? Any advice or input would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Your herpes test was way too soon to show positive, and its probably too late to get a culture from this, but have you seen a doctor about it?  You don't mention an exam.

No, I have not seen a doctor about this yet. How long should one wait to get a herpes test after signs of a problem, in my case the sores?

You need to see a doctor as soon as possible after seeing sores so they can be cultured.
