Testing concerns....advice please

Hi...Quick question about testing. I received unprotected oral sex from an unknown female. At 3.5 weeks I did a urine test for chlam, gon, and syph. All came back negative. I did retest for syph at 10.5 weeks and am awaiting the results. I also tested last week for HSV 1 and 2. Also waiting results. Should I feel confident with the negative gon and chlam. test results? Is a blood test more or less accurate? Do you think I should test again? I have not had any symptoms that I am aware of (ie no burning, discharge, blood). I may have swollen glands in my groin, but I can;t tell if that is what they always have felt like. Never palpated for them before. Please give me some tips and/or feedback. I also tested neg for HIV at 10.5 weeks. Should I be concerned with anything else? Thank-you so much for your time and help.

IF you had oral herpes, you would have tested positive.

Herpes doesn't typically show up as pimples on your face.  Most of the time, if it looks like a pimple, and acts like a pimple, its just a pimple.  Stress causes me to break out with pimples - maybe its doing that for you?

Have you talked with your counselor about this?  You seem to be heading into severe anxiety or obsession, and you should talk about this.  Science and logic are saying you have no infections, and yet you are firmly entrenched in the thought that you do.

Another question if you don't mind. IF I were to have HSV orally would the syptoms be around my mouth? I ask this because I recall having tiny white pimples at the corners of my mouth a few months back. They were probably pin-sized. Secondly, would HSV show up on your forehead or upper cheek bone area? I ask only because I have recently been breaking out with pimples in these areas. Single one on my right upper cheek (been a few weeks and still visible) Then one on the left cheek and forehead above my eybrow (they have been there for two weeks) And recently towards the end of last week three pimples showed up near the one above my eyebrow along my hair line (they concern me because they came on at the same time and they are in a straight line. Not of them itch and they are not sore (maybe slightly if I touch them). I typically never get any pimples or blemishes on my face. So that is why I am kind of concerned. Would I get an outbreak in these areas or are they just pimples? Yes this is anxiety related question, but just trying to make sue everything is o.k. AJ you totall rock with your kindness and knowledge. I just hope this will all be over soon. Thanks again for your reply.

If you had oral hsv2 infection (which is RARE), then it would stay an oral infection.

However, you had a negative hsv1 and 2 test at 10.5 weeks.  If you showed positive after that, I'd be shocked.  I don't think you need to worry about herpes at all, ok?

And we can keep this thread going as long as it doesn't go above 70 or so, then it starts being slow to load.  And if you don't get this resolved by 70 posts, I need to stop doing this lol.

Really, you are fine.  You have been testing negative, and don't need any other testing, ok?  Just work on the anxiety and guilt with your counselor.  You don't have an std.  :)

Hi AJ
Another Herpes question for you. If a person was infected orally with HSV 2 would they only get recurrences in the oral area with HSV-2 or would it after the primary infection later move and recur in the genital area. And I guess vice versa? The only sexual contact my wife and I had was oral sex on each other 2 weeks after my stupid incident. I am just trying to figure things out and try to make sense out of the whole Herpes thing. Could you please shed some insight and knowledge my way about the possibility of my wife acquiring genital herpes from me. I paid 15 dollars to post in the expert forum, but I was unable to submit the post. I don't know what happened, but I guess I lost my money. I had to repost on a previous thread. I am sure Dr. HHH is going to be p***ed, but I really need some help. Thanks so much again AJ. You have been so helpful...If we keep chatting occasionally would you prefer I start a new thread?

She could get herpes symptoms there, but its not at all likely, and if they look like bug bites, they probably are.

Hang in there, ok?

Thank-you so much AJ. You are so helpful. I am seeing a counselor . We have met 5 times; it is helping. If you don't mind I do have another question from the above post. In regards to the 5 bumps on the back of her lseg; is that a spot where herpes could show up, or is it only in the genital, rectal area. I am relieved to hear that sinus type of infections would not be symptoms. Thanks again for your quick response and thorough answers.

Herpes doesn't cause sinus infections or coughs.  When we talk about flu like symptoms, its pretty much just aches, pains, maybe a fever, fatigue.

14.5 weeks is just shy of 16 weeks, or 4 months, so its fine.  Most people develop antibodies much sooner.

I think you are overreacting, and I think you are feeling guilt and anxiety.  If you need to, talk to someone about this, like a counselor.

Thanks AJ and Vance2335 for your thoughts and advice. I have been feeling a lot better and saw my Dr. They did a urinalysis to check for bacteria and it came back clean. They also "checked" my prostate. All OK up there. Now I have a new question for you if you don't mind. 2 weeks ago my wife woke up with a bad stuffy nose. She also found 5 small "bug bites" on the back of her leg. About midway down her leg. That same day she felt worse and went to the Dr. She was diagnosed with a sinus infection and never had the Dr look at the spots. She assumed they were just bug bites. Tjis freaked me out. My immediate thought was Herpes. 5 bumps on the back of her leg, sinus problem, sore throat and flemmy cough. (Just coincidental?) Is that a location for HSV2? I am freaked again because she is pregnant. I am so p***ed off at myself for putting my family at risk for anything. I got a Herpes Select IGg and Herpes Simplex IGm done at 14.5 weeks. I have read it could take up to 4 mos. for the anti-bodies to show. Do you think this could be Herpes or am I just over-reacting? Just when I thik everything is going to be OK it seems like a new episode occurs to make me think otherwise. Please help me with some of your expertise and experience, I could use any info you could share with me. Thank-you again so much for all of this. You have no idea how much this site has meant to me. Sorry to keep questioning you.

I agree.  Maybe cut back on the coffee and add some more water and see if that helps.

I think it's time to move on because you received negative test results. So your "anything" is not an STD. You can be certain of that because of your results.

Thanks again AJ
Here is a quick update to what I have been noticing lately. First off I am 31 y.o., I do not drink much water throughout the day, I do drink quite a bit of coffee (caffeine), I am noticing this feeling I am trying to explain more often after emptying my bladder. It sort of feels like I need to trickle out a little more (usually about 10-15 minutes afterwards. After a while it seems to fade and I usually don't urinate againe for another 1.5 - 2 hrs. I can usaually go the whole night without going. Sometimes wake up early and  have to go (usually 6 hrs or so) Still do not notice any pain or any type of discharge. Don't know what is going on. Does any of this sound like "anything". AJ you have been super helpful and I truly appreciate your advice and honesty.

Sorry - I've been offline mostly for a week.

I think you can trust your test results, and don't need to retest.  I wonder if you've had a prostate exam.

In the meantime, are you drinking enough water, etc?

Hi AJ
I am doing better and I thank-you again for your help and expertise. I am still concerned with my negative test results though. I remember early on (about 2 mos ago or so) I had feelings of discharge or possible need to urinate. It gave me the instinct to have to "squeeze". I never had any visible discharge though. I still am getting these types of feelings although not as often and a little more subtle. It sort of feels like when you press on your belly button.Don't know if women have the same types of feelings or not, so you may or may not know what that feels like. Do you know what may be causing this? Should I test for something else that I haven't tested for yet? Can the urine tests be trusted (2 of them) or should I re-test or get a swab done? I am still a bit nervous. I wish I would either have "real" symptoms or feel nothing at all. Any info or help as always is very much appreciated. I can't wait to get past all of this and enjoy my "new" family!
Thank-you and God bless

The herpeselect can miss 10% of hsv1 infections, so its possible that happened.  No big worries - it doesn't do that on hsv2.

I really think you are fine.

Good luck and congrats on the new baby.  :)

Quick question and update...To quickly recap I received unprotected oral sex from an unknown female. Testing as follows:
3.5 weeks post exposure:
Gon (urine)- neg., Chlam (urine)-neg, Syph (blood)- neg HIV (rapid oral) - neg

7.5 weeks:
HIV (blood) - neg

10.5 weeks:
Syph (blood) - neg, Herpes1 & 2 (blood) - neg, HIV (rapid oral) - neg

12.5 weeks:
Gon (urine) - neg, Chlam (urine) - neg, HIV (blood) - neg, Hep B (blood) - no anti-bodies

Everything seems great..My anxiety has definitely settled down.
My question is: I tested negative for Herpes 1&2 and they came back negative, however I have had cold sores in the past on my lip. Why would that ot have shown up? Wouldn't I have the HSV1 in my system? Could these results be inaccurate?

Should I have any other concerns or do you think I can move on with all of these test results?.....
The reason I am being extra cautious is because my wife is 7 months pregnant and I can't risk anything that might harm my family. I know I screwed up big time, but they shouldn't have to suffer from my stupidity. I love them too much to put them at any further risk. Thank-you everyone for your help, advice and support.

It would have shown up in a urine test - no worries.

Thank-you for your prompt response...You are very helpful and reassuring. One final thing, What is NGU? Would that be chlamydia? At the clinic they told me all I needed to test for was gon, chlamydia and syphilis. Again all negative at 3.5 weeks. DO I need to test for NGU specifically or would it have shown up through the previous test? Thanks again AJ.

OK lets keep in mind that you had unprotected oral sex.  You received it.

That means the ONLY things you could get are gonorrhea, NGU, and syphilis.  You are not at risk for HIV.  Your test for that is fine, since you weren't at risk for that in the first place.

Your gonorrhea test is accurate at that time, and technically you could test again for syphilis, but if you've had no symptoms, you don't need to test.  Syphilis is pretty uncommon in the US.

I really think you are fine.

Sorry about the other post...and about the website. I actually typed the wrong web address. It is www.aboutmyhealth.us
Any ideas or thoughts of them? Would you assume most of these would have to be trustworthy? I just don't want to get some B.S. test results.
I did get tested at a clinic at 3.5 weeks after receiving oral sex and results came back neg. for Gon, Chlam, Syph and HIV
I am just nervous because it was a urine test and I am not sure how long it was since I urinated before the test. They never mentioned anything about having to wait at least an hour for an accurate result. This weekend will be 12 weeks and I just wanted to confirm the previous test results.
I know this is not an HIV foru, but I did test neg at 10.5 weeks fir HIV. Should I maybe test again for that this week since it will now be 12+ weeks?
Thanks so much AJ.You are very helpful during this stressful time in my life. It is nice having someone to talk to and get some knowledgable advice

If you haven't given oral, you can't have an oral std.  I don't know what it is on your throat, but if you are concerned, you should get it checked.

Perhaps you do have folliculitis from shaving.  Try some antibiotic ointment on it, and get a new razor.

Thanks for the clarification AJ. One other thing..Do you know of any STD that would put a small red bump in the back of your throat ( sort of next to the punching bg thing)? I also have 2 recurring whitehead pimple that show up on my cheek and corner of my lip. When I squeeze it, it seems to get red and irritated. Not sure if these are being caused by shaving. My only risk was receiving oral sex from an unknown and fingering her. My face came in close contact with her privates, but never touched anything.Any ideas or my possible risks. Thank-you so much again.

Oops - yes, the urine is MORE accurate than blood.

That's what I get for posting when I'm tired.

Sorry. :(

You should wait at least an hour from your last urination before doing the urine testing.

Urine test is more accurate test then blood. No need to test again.
Nothing you did would have effected your throat. Not an STD.
