Trich Question

A month ago, I had an unprotected one-night stand with a woman other than my wife.
Three days later, I noticed a small amount of thin milky discharge as well as a slight burning when urinating.
The next day I went in to the clinic and left a urine sample for chlamydia and gonorrhea tests. I also was given 2g Azithromycin to cover either infection.
Meanwhile, my partner also went in for a checkup. She relayed that her doctor did not notice any redness, swelling, discarge, or lesions. Also a swab was viewed under a microscope which she said was not visible for bacteria or yeast, and she left a sample to be cultured.
The next day my symptoms subsided except for a slight irritation or tickle toward the end of my urethra.  I also had intermittent achiness in one or the other testicle. It alternated.
9 days after the encounter (5 after taking the Azithromycin) the culture for my partner came back and gave her a clean bill of health, no STDs.  She did not say what tests were run.
That same day I was able to see my doctor, who examined me and said whatever I had, it was gone and that the achiness could be addressed by "relieving some pressure" by which I'm sure he meant masturbation.  He said that since she came back clean, I probably had a non-chlamydial NGU.
I wasn't with my wife until 9 days after treatment when my tests came back negative.
Then I went on vacation for a week and hardly ever noticed irritation or achiness.
Fast-forward a month from the encounter to now. Now that I'm back and I have time to dwell on what I've done, the occasional urethra tingliess has returned along with the slight testicular ache. Being somewhat obsessive I researched it and am worried that I might have trichomoniasis.  Either that, or its anxiety, which I also have a lot of.  I would honestly love for it to be in my head.
Do you think I have anything to worry about, given my partner's test results? Again, she didn't specify what exactly was run with her culture.
Thanks for your help.

You had negative tests.  Please believe them.  It is most unlikely that your wife's streaking represented an STD.  EWH

Hi doctor - I'm sorry but I have one more concern.
Last night after sex my wife noticed a few red streaks in her vaginal secretions as she was cleaning up.  She noticed them again this morning as she was showering. As a precaution she is using a tampon today.
It is the day she is scheduled to ovulate.  She is not on birth control, and she has been paying close attention to her fertility but hasn't been taking her temperature lately.  She is usually very regular in her cycles.
Since I tested negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea and my partner from the encounter over 6 weeks ago tested negative for those as well as trich, do you think this could be a symptom of something else or do you think it is due to her ovulation?
Thank you again for the wonderful public service you provide here. I'm glad I have you to turn to.

I knew they are different diseases, I just wanted to make sure that she wasn't mistaking something that could be herpes for a canker sore. Its in a rather hard to see area at the back of her tongue so I just wanted to make sure.  I wasn't aware of common areas for herpes to occur.  Thank you for clarifying and helping put me at ease.

No, canker sores and oral herpes are different diseases.  Sores on the tongue are unusual for herpes but common for canker sores.  You do not need testing for herpes,  you need to put this all behind you and move on.  EWH

Doctor, thank you for your response and reassurance.  I contacted my partner and she confirmed that a negative trich test was part of the panel that was run on her swab.
One final follow-up. My wife recently had a bad head cold and cough, and has just developed what she thinks is a canker sore at the very back of her tongue, in her throat, and I wanted to see if you think I have anything to worry about from herpes.  I have not exhibited any sort of symptoms beyond what I have described to you earlier, eg the every-so-often light tingliness in my urethra.  Should I get tested for herpes?  Thank you again.

The chance that you have trich is very low.  Your symptoms has resolved, your doctor says your abnormal findings have cleared and your partner was tested and was judged not to have STD.  Presumably, she was checked for trich as part of her examination.  If you (or she have doubts as to whether or not she was checked for trich, she should ask her doctor.

The fact is that that you have nothing to worry about.  Guilt and the related anxiety from such concerns can cause exactly the sort of symptoms you are concerned about.  Try to get by this. Take care.  EWH
