Unprotected Oral, Concerned

Hi Doc.

I had sex with an escort a month ago.  I received unprotected oral and protected vaginal sex.  I also French kissed her.  From previous posts on this forum, both of you indicated that receiving oral has virtually no risk of HIV(no well documented case), and very little risk of other STDs.  A few days ago, I noticed that I have 6 or 7 bug bite like rashes, and they are itchy(they could be just bug bites.  However, I never had this many bug bites at once before).  A few look like mosquito bites, the others seem like ant/spider bites(hurt when I press them).  These rashes are on my hands, legs, and feet.  All of these rashes are very small.  I also had a couple of new pimples on my face.  I will get tested in another couple of months(more accurate over 90 days, and I current don't have health insurance due to change of jobs).  Here are my questions:

1. Is my risk of getting HIV almost zero?
2. Are these symptoms that I indicated above signs of STDs?
3. What's my risks of any type of STDs.

Thank you very much.
3.

Welcome back to the forum.

You correctly understand that oral sex is safe sex -- not completely free of STD risk, but much lower chance of infection than with unprotected vaginal or anal sex.  Kissing carries no STD risk.  And no STD commonly presents with "bug bite like" rash or facial pimples.  And none of these symptoms suggests a new HIV infection.

1) This exposure was zero risk for HIV.

2) No; see above.

3) There are no data on which to base a numerical estimate of the odds you caught anything.  But it's probably less than one chance in a thousand.  If you need more security than that, you could visit a clinic for testing.

You seem to have gotten into a habit of coming to this forum every year or so to reaffirm what you already know about STD/HIV risks.  While MedHelp is happy to accept your posting fees, it really shouldn't be necessary to re-ask the same sorts of questions after every commercial sex encounter you have.

In the 7+ years of this forum, nobody has ever turned out HIV positive after an exposure that concerned them.  If and when that happnes, I expect it to be someone at real risk, e.g. a gay man with multiple partners, an injection drug user, etc.  It will not be someone with a low risk sort of exposure like yours.  So try to move on without worry.

Dr. H,

Thanks a lot for the response.  I am going to get tested once I get my insurance.  I know I get paranoid every time I go see a CSW.  Hopefully this will be my last time seeing a CSW.  I hope my results will be negative when I get tested.

Thanks.
