Urethra Irritation Even After Meds....Please Help

Hello and thanks in advance for your help....I am very concerned and worried.

On Sunday, August 23rd I received unprotected oral sex for about 3 minutes from a street prostitute.  I immediately ejaculated and urinated 15 minutes later.  Within the next 48 hours I began to have an irritation and unnatural feeling in the shaft of my penis.

Went to the doctor and he tested me for Chlamydia (negative result) on Tuesday August 25th and prescribed me Azithromycin (1-time two-pill dosage).  The irritation subsided but a week or so later came back.

Very concerned, I went back and on Friday, September 4th, (13 days after exposure) the doctor gave me an injection of Rocephin and I have been on doxycycline two pills a day since Friday, September 4th (4 days ago).  I do not have any discharge or sores, bumps, red spots, blisters, etc., just a constant, bad irritation in my urethra and it is driving me crazy that I cannot even think anymore.

1. What on Earth could it be?

2. Am I on the right meds?

3. Should my symptoms have gone away by now?

Without getting all moral, I am finished being irrisponsible.  The risk and guilt I feel is just not worth it and I feel like less of a man for even being so stupid.

Thank you all for your help.

Thanks again Grace...

So, if it were Herpes, I would've shown signs of it by now? (16 days after exposure)

Flagyl is an antibiotic that is good for fungal infections of the urogenital tract.

This doesn't sound like herpes or syphilis going on either.

Thanks Grace,

So, regardless of the irritation in my urethra, no need to worry about anything serious?  i.e. Herpes, Syphilis, etc.

The doctor wrote down on my sheet "Urethritis" but never did any tests during the second visit.  Is it typical for the urethra to be irritated even after the meds I have been given?

Also, what is flagyl?

They've covered you for all the usual suspects at this point even though it was just oral sex and the risk of a std from it was minimal. They are now covering you for non-std infections too.  Wait until it's been a week off of the doxy and if you still have symptoms, return to your provider for further evaluation which should include a prostate exam as well as a urine sample.  They might need to cover you with some flagyl at that time if you still have symptoms to cover fungal infections which was pretty common from receiving oral sex. The normal mouth flora aren't always so normal in the urogenital tract and can cause issues.

You can also pick up some otc urinary pain relief tablets too to take to help with the  pain. be warned they turn your urine bright orange and any dribbles can stain clothing and floors so be sure to use some toilet paper after urinating to get those last dribbles.
