A POSITIVE RESULT INDICATES THE PRESENCE OF ANTIBODIES TO T.pallidium, resulting from a past or present infection. in some very early cases of syphillis a negative result may also be obtained. sampe fropm patient with connective tissue disorders , leprosy or infectious monoucleosis have been reported to give "false positive" in such case all positive results should b confirmed by FTA-ABS and clinical evidence also be taken into account before a diagnosis is made.
