Vaginal and Throat Infections - can it be STD?

by Mh360, Feb 20, 2009 04:22PM
Hello, I am 29-year-old female.  I had unprotected oral sex (both ways) and protected sex about 5 weeks ago with a man of unknown history.  At the time of the sex, I had a sore throat.  2 weeks passed without any problems, and my sore throat was getting better.  But after about 2.5 weeks, I started having vaginal discharge and irritation in the vaginal area.  Also around the same time, I started having an infection on my tonsils (some skin-colored bumps).  I got scared, so I went to get STD test at a local clinic.  The test results were all negative (yeast, bacteria, Trich, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, and Syphilis).  I also went to a regular doctor about my tonsils, and they tested for strep and bacteria.  The results were negative.  She told me it is likely an upper respiratory viral infection and it will go way in a few days.  But I am afraid that I have something else since I still have both of the symptoms (vaginal and tonsil infections).  Can this be some kind of STD (like Hepatitis B virus)?  Can one virus cause both throat and vaginal infections?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

You could have adenovirus, which could affect both areas.  Your tests are all negative, so it could be that.  If its not better soon, follow up with your doctor.

Hello, thank you for the comment.  I went to see a gynecologist because I was worried about my vaginal irritation.  She told me that STD does not present like this, and it might be caused by some kind of virus.  She just prescribed me with a cream to put.  That was two weeks ago.  I put cream everyday and I still have some irritation mainly on inner lips and clitoris area.  My throat infection is almost gone now, but I got pimple-like thing on the side of my mouth and I am afraid that I have herpes.  At first, there was only one bump that slowly developed into yellow color (and the bump is painful).  It poped this morning, and the yellow color went away.  But now, I have yellow bump again at the same place with two other ones right besides it.  Can this be a symptom of oral herpes?  Or can it be something else?  Any information or help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Yellow bumps aren't likely to be herpes, but let your doctor check it out as soon as you can, so she can culture them and find out for sure.

Hello, I am still suffering from the same thing after 6 months...  I don't think it is adenovirus because I believe it does not persist that long.  I went to see doctors several times, and they tested for many things, but they cannot find anything wrong.  Here is what I am experiencing:  1) I am feeling soreness in my vaginal area, and sometimes I have discharge.  2) I feel soreness on my throat, especially the right side.  3) hemorrhoid.  These symptoms get better and worse (as if there is a cycle), but they seem to get better and worse together.  Right now, I don't know what to do because it seems like no one can figure out the cause of this..  If anyone can provde any help, suggestion, or clue on what this might be, I would greatly appreciate it.  Also, can anyone suggest what kind of doctor (if any) I should go get checked?

Thank you!

Well this is not a STD, anything else I really can't give you much advice on. Sorry, all I can say is keep trying to follow up with your Dr and work with him/her on this.
