What am I worried about?? (RE: Herpes? Warts?)

Hey Doc.
21 Year old Male here.  Have only had un protected sex once I would say about a year ago, this girl was safe. No longer with her.  Three weeks ago I had protected sex of course, however I received oral without a condom on. I really think this is nothing to be afraid of. -- About a month or so ago I shaved down there, not with razor but with electric clippers so there was still a small amount of hair left when finished.  I bring this up for the possibilities of ingrown hair?

Saturday while itching down in my pubic area I thought I felt a bump.  Didnt even notice it and paid no attention.  Sunday I noticed there was a small pimple like bump forming.  This bump is found in my pubic area and about a inch and a half above my shaft (NOT ON MY PENIS, PUBIC AREA ABOVE PENIS).  Speaking about the shaving, my hair is grown back quite a bit since it has been about a month since I shaved.  Monday the bump got a little worse.. It is a small bump which feels kind of weird.. like tender skin or kind of hard I dunno. Reddish.. Im sure i could pop this if I wanted to. It is very un comfortable with clothing. Now today when I woke up it is not bugging me as much and seems like its not really as much of a problem.  When I put my jeans on it hurts when i go over the area you know?  Like when i rub it the wrong way.

I have had a pimple down there once or twice before in my life, never a big deal and I dont recall it being such a pest as this..?? I am a pretty worried/paranoid type, so I think its just my mind playing tricks.  But the only thing with this one is it's quite annoying and hurts more than I remembered.  I would say fully appeared Monday, now Wed. and it does seem like its getting better but just curious what you could suggest.  Thanks so much!

Sounds like a pimple, or folliculitis (hair follicle infection), which can be triggered by shaving.  Herpes and other STDs generally involve the penis, not the pubic area.  The STD risks associated with oral sex are very low, and too much time has passed to be concerned about your exposure a year ago.

See a health care provider if the lesion continues to enlarge or doesn't resolve in the next few days.  Keep your hands off it in the meantime.  In any case, don't worry about STDs.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
