What is wrong?

I am a male. About a month ago I received unprotected oral sex from a female stripper.  2 days later I had frequent urination that eventually turned into intense burning and swollen testicles. I was treated twice with cefixime to no avail. I was also given azithromicin the first time. I eventually got a ceftriaxone injection and a 7 day dose of doxcycline of 100mg twice per day. I felt normal for a week after treatment and had sex with my wife.  Immediately after I had burning and frequent urination that eventually led to waking up with clear discharge a couple weeks later. I got another ceftriaxone shot and azithromicin dose to no avail.  I was then treated for trick and recurrent ngu with flagyl. I still don't feel better and experiencing burning urination frequently.  What is going on?

Hi Doctor,

I find it hard to believe that this is merely a coincidence.  I made a stupid mistake and relations with a very high risk person and have been having symptoms ever since.  I had to urinate 3 times during the night last night and the tip of my penis is inflamed.  Is it possible I may have genitalium? I have read that this STI is difficult to test for and hence why my cultures and urine keep coming back negative.  The symptoms of this infection are also exactly what I have.  Discharge, burning, frequent urination.

Welcome to our Forum.  I'll try to help.  It is time for your to stop, worrying about having a STI from the exposure that you describe.  Receipt of oral sex is relatively low risk for STI acquisition and your initial symptoms, particularly urinary frequency are not typical of STIs.  When you combine this with multiple negative tests and multiple courses of treatment you mention, there is really no reason to continue to worry about STIs as the cause of your symptoms.  I suggest you work with your doctor to evaluate other possibilities including prostatitis or the chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS, it is well described on Wikipedia).

There is simply no reason for continuing to worry about STIs, to test, or to worry about the possibility of infection your regular sex partner.  I hope this perspective is helpful.  EWH
