Where does STDs originate from? What causes the evolution of new strains of STDs?

http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,21554081-2703,00.html
This article, which I discovered today, has me pondering a lot about the originality of STDs and where do they come from? What variables causes the dramatic evolution of STDs? I am sure a lot of you older fellas remember the 1970's like it was yesterday...promiscuous, unprotected sex with many women, experimentations with mind-expanding drugs in a non-consequential environment, etc. Get an STD in the 70's, and a shot of Penicillin was the cure. Now today, in this hellish era, one must wrap its **** in a thick piece of rubber to prevent hundreds of different STD strains from invading the body, and still worry about STDs. And for youngins like me, that is VERY bad and frustrating news. Since I was born in 1986, I never got the chance to ripe the sows of that 70's era, so consider yourself lucky you old farts and bums ;)
But answer me...what is causing this hellish breakout of new strains of dangerous, viral STDs?
Is it man made by any chance, or simply the evolution of Darwinian nature of viral reproduction? Something tells me that virus and bacteria are micro-intelligent beings that reproduce and replicate just like humans.
Any thoughts?

What are you talking about? Its not about raping animals. Although it is possible to transfer disease from animals if someone transferred blood and other liquids from the animal into their own bloodstream. Have you heard of black plague, spanish flu, bird flu, etc. The bubonic plague is one of the most devastating disease in human history. It came from fleas traveling on rats from trading from Asia. Now Asians already had a resistance to the disease. It wiped out about half of Europeans population. When Europeans came to North American they wiped out a large part of native American population by bringing measles and other disease. Disease can be blood, food, water, etc borne. But when you introduce them to a foreign environment without resistance they turn into plagues. When can get diseases from animals by eating raw meat.Eating parts of animals that we shouldn't eat and so forth. High temperature cooking/boiling gets rid of most diseases, bacteria, etc. Which in the ancient world they didn't have. Viruses/bacterial viruses mutate and evolve. So they become resistant to antibiotics.

The reason we have so many STD's,viruses, etc is because the increase of world travel. Viruses have always existed in animals and humans.Dinosaurs had viruses. Once viruses can travel they will. Through sexual contact or other means. Diseases like Avian flu mutate from animal to human to airborne and so forth. So lets say you discover a new animal and it bites you. The animal is infected with some disease exclusively from that animal. The disease mutates and adapts to your immune system/body and when you have sex you transfer that disease to another human. And so on and so forth.

Think of something like HIV. It comes from Simian Immunodeficiency Virus that is only in monkeys. Now there is a reason you didn't see this stuff until colonialism. The Africans knew how to deal with their environment, what to eat,how to live, etc. Colonialist came and destroyed all that structure and tried to do it their way. Which made things terrible. Such as having them live closer to the water with mosquitoes that brought about malaria. Close quarters, starvation and work camps with poor conditions in places with the possible infected monkeys also could have been where transmission occurred.Weakened immune systems are ripe for viruses.

Personally I'm not gonna through around a bunch of intellegence or say anything that i think sounds good but the way i see it is who cares who made, when they were made, how they were made or why they were made. The fact of the matter and the big picture is and always will be that stds are here and it ain't nothing we can do but follow the rules or become a victim. We all can have sex freely but inform and educate ur self about what ur up against. The world is a huge battle field and its either fight or die. U b the one to choose and don't justify ur actions with the fact that stds are here. Have some respect and love for urself. U don't need to sleep around anyway and if u choose to then so be it. U will b the one at the clinic crying and embarassed.... nobody else. No need to argue back and forth. It just is wat it is!!!! Real talk! Either except it or don't. :)

Even if there were such destructive stds in the past, why were most women still able to have healthy children? Now bacterial infections make a woman infertile and are harder to get cured.. Yes infections occur from bacteria, but unless you are feeding the bacteria what it needs to survive, your body should be strong enough to naturally fight off infection. What are white blood cells for anyway?? Just like cancer, which actually comes from putting toxins and dioxins into your body...but we also already have cancer cells in our body, unless those cells are given more "nutrition" to evolve, our body fights them off.. there are chemicals floating in the air above us everyday.. all of these things we think are good for us are making us more subseptive to all types of infections and diseases.. question.. why do people on the east coast all get sick at the same time..? Is absolutely everyone that nieve to believe we could get a SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE from an animal WITHOUT SEX!

Someone please explain to me how to get a SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED disease from EATING an animal or getting BIT by an animal.. And if anyone has ever actually caught a monkey in Africa, or anywhere else for that matter... please tell me how a wild animal would refrain from killing you while being raped.. None of this makes sense.. people THINK about it.

Where to start with a post like this? My god.

"I am sure a lot of you older fellas remember the 1970's like it was yesterday...promiscuous, unprotected sex with many women, experimentations with mind-expanding drugs in a non-consequential environment, etc. Get an STD in the 70's, and a shot of Penicillin was the cure."

The penicillin is helpful for the bacteria-based infections only. Herpes was around in the 1970s. I read somewhere that herpes may have originated from sheep (cue laugh track here), so if this is true, it's been around since the domestication of livestock, which goes back at least to before the onset of agriculture, which was 10,000 years ago. Somebody would have to clarify or correct me on this one, but I believe I read this about herpes somewhere.

So antibiotics don't work with viruses. Viruses have also been around for millennia, but it's the transfer of those viruses to the humans that of course causes the problems.

"Now today, in this hellish era, one must wrap its **** in a thick piece of rubber to prevent hundreds of different STD strains from invading the body,"

Hundreds of different strains? I didn't read the article you linked, but where are you getting that there are "hundreds" of strains?  Is this  true for the bacteria, like gonorrhea? I'm not sure. Or are you exaggerating because you are fearful and/or feel the need to generate fear in others? Hundreds of strains? I'm not sure about that one. Give us the link for that conclusion.

"And for youngins like me,"

Hell, you're not  that young. Don't flatter yourself.

" that is VERY bad and frustrating news. Since I was born in 1986, I never got the chance to ripe the sows of that 70's era, so consider yourself lucky you old farts and bums"

So are you living in a closed-off society where having your choice of sex partners is taboo? No? Then what's stopping you from you "riping your sows" or whatever the hell you call it? (The terminology is "sowing your oats," if you care.)  You're an adult. You can have sex with whomever you choose, unless you happen to be in a relationship where you and your partner have decided on monogamy and you decide to honor that commitment. Otherwise, what is stopping you from having sex?

"But answer me...what is causing this hellish breakout of new strains of dangerous, viral STDs?"

Which new  strains of viral STDs  have popped up? Help us out here. The latest viral STD I know of is HIV, and that's been around  since before you were born. What's the newest one? Can you tell us?

"Is it man made by any chance, or simply the evolution of Darwinian nature of viral reproduction? Something tells me that virus and bacteria are micro-intelligent beings that reproduce and replicate just like humans.
Any thoughts?"

I'm not a biologist, and I don't play one on T.V. (as a matter of fact, I don't even own a T.V.), but viruses do indeed  reproduce and replicate, which is why they are so tricky to control with medications. I think the researchers have done an excellent job with the retroviral meds  for AIDS, to be honest. They can decrease viral loads in AIDS patient significantly and extend the lifespan of those with HIV, making it a much more manageable disease.

Viruses are not man-made. How viruses end up in humans as hosts  has a lot to do with our man-made environment, with our ability to travel to places where viruses are found in the animal and plant environments in their natural settings. HIV is said to have originated in green monkeys in Africa. Either someone was bitten by a green monkey, or they ate the organs of a green monkey, or some other scenario unfolded, and HIV was then transferred to humans. (See Randy Shilts "As the Band Played On" for a great history of HIV.) The HIV is then transferred to a human host or hosts, and these humans are traveling all over the world on airplanes, which are certainly man-made, and carrying the virus around the world.  That's how viruses move around among populations. Or one way, anyway.

You want to worry about something, worry about global warming. STDs are an okay thing to ponder about, and I would argue that reining in AIDS has to be the public health mandate of our new century since it is killing so many people in Africa and other parts of the developed world.

But global warming and Peak Oil will have far more disastrous effects for world populations than STDs ever will.

I don't care for the word "promiscuous," BTW. Yeah, it's a "real" word with a "real" definition, but I just don't care for it. Bleh.

Good question, but I think the STD's where with us for 1000's of years, just back then people didn't get treated and died or were killed for it. But I wouldn't be surprised if some were men made and it was just to make billions of dollars.
