Why isn't ureaplasma tested for in a routine STD/STI checkup?

My nurse told me I have ureaplasma and I'm sort of freaking out. How serious is this? She found that I had it after doing a vaginal swab culture but this is the first time I've ever had one of those done, so I feel like I may have had ureaplasma for years. She told me to tell any partners I've had to get treated, but if I contracted it when I was 16 or 17, how awkward would it be to go back and tell partners from years and years ago that they should get tested for ureaplasma?? It didn't go away with antibiotics (doxycycline 2x a day for two weeks) so my nurse is going to put me on more antibiotics. Why isn't ureaplasma tested for in a routine STD/STI checkup? Should I really tell all my partners I've had since I started having sex (because who knows how long I've had this) that they need to get tested for it? Sounds insane.

Hi, ureaplasma is most often a normal bacteria in your body but can become an issue if it grows out of control.
