Worried... Help Doc

by bradley234, Jul 27, 2008 10:11AM
Doc about a week ago I had protected sex with a CSW.  Two days later I had the urge to urinate about every 30 minutes at night and did not get a good night sleep.  I also had a dull pain in my left side.  I have never had any discharge or burning sensation during urination.  I was able to get in to the doctor two days later and he was not able to tell if Ihad an STD or other bacterial infection.  He prescribed a single dose treatment of 2* 400 mg of Floxstat.  It has been about 72 hours since I saw the doc and I still have to use the bathroom frequently and have the dull pain in my side.  Could I still have an STD.  He said if I had an STD (Gon or Chlam) the Floxstat would kill it in a few days.  Please advise it has been a week since sex.

Hi there -

The floxstat will not cure chlamydia at that dose, but it might cure gonorrhea at that dose.  However, gonorrhea has become resistance to it, more so in some populations (men who have sex with men) and certain areas.

That said, what you describe doesn't sound like chlamydia or gonorrhea.  If you had protected sex, the chances that you got either of those are about zero, and you probably wouldn't have had symptoms of either so fast.  Frequent urination isn't a symptom, either.

The unfortunate part here is that you took the meds, and now testing for other things might be tricky, if the antibiotics have inhibited the growth of other bacteria enough to cause a false negative test.

I wonder if you have a urinary tract infection, prostatitis, etc - and the timing is pure coincidence.

I'd follow up with your doctor again.
