Worried about HIV and Syphilis

by liketotravel, Jul 23, 2007 12:00AM
12 weeks ago I had sex(Unprotected)vaginal several times with a woman ejaculating in her. Been chatting with her for over 7 years on the Net. She has only been with her husband, married 16 years. I asked about her husbands faithfulness, sure about that also.  She says she is 100% no STDs. I have had several symptoms of STDs since about 2 weeks after possible exposure. I had sore throat (very mild) continues off and on, sore Lymph nodes, and some red spots on my penis and inner thigh(No other rashes other then in mouth, been extremely tired the past 8 weeks, I have developed a sore mouth and gum swelling starting about 6 weeks after possible exposure.

At 8 weeks went to the Drs office and tested for HIV, Syphilis, Gonorrhea & Chlamydia all coming back negative.

Went to the dentist about mouth and he couldn't tell what it was. If not better he would refer me somewhere else. Did not tell him about STD test. Seems like every day I have another place in my mouth that is sore - they last a few days and then go away.   Mouth just doesn't seem right and is one of my biggest complaints. Tongue seems white but dentist said it looks normal. I very worried about this and look at it alot with a mirror and at your post often for similiar threads.

I would appriciate your thoughts, especially the mouth problems, rash and fatigue. Are my 8 weeks test for HIV and Syphilis sufficient?

First, you describe a very low risk situation.  Assuming your partner wasn't lying through her teeth, there was no appreciable STD risk--and certainly no risk for syphilis or HIV, which are limited to the highest of high risk populations.  Second, 'I have had several symptoms of STDs' is a misstatement:  none of the symptoms you describe suggests HIV, syphilis, or any other STD.  Third, your negative tests at 8 weeks prove you weren't infected.

I don't know what is causing your symptoms.  But you can put HIV, syphilis, and other STDs out of your mind; impossible.  And with a dentist saying your tongue is normal, it is normal.  You provide all the signs that the main problem here is your guilt over your sexual infidelity.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

I thank you for your answer - I just have one question and then will let the issue alone - promise.

I have just felt sick for weeks - stomach, and just general not feeling well.

My question is if these (See Above) are not Syphilis symptoms - what are the symptoms of the secondary phase?

Thank you and again I will let this issue alone so you can tend to more important things - hope this is not a bother.

Thanks again.

The symptoms of secondary syphilis are irrelevant, since your test result prove you cannot possibly have it.  The most common symptoms is a generalized skin rash.  "Felt sick for weeks - stomach, and just general not feeling well" does not suggest syphilis.
