Worried about mysterious red bump

Hello,

Thank you for providing an enormously helpful service. I am 22 year old writing because I have a red bump on the underside of my penis which I am worried about.

I have always had a soft white bump, about 2-3 millimeters in size, on the shaft of my penis. It is a little over a third of the way down from my glands and above where pubic hair grows.  I always assumed this was a slightly larger Fordyce spot as I have plenty of those.  I believe I have had this bump since puberty but it is possible it appeared after I became sexually active and I never noticed. About four years ago I had a wart on my thumb which I left untreated for a year until I switched doctors and my new doctor told me to treat it because  I could pass it to someones genitals.  Could I have passed this wart to my genitals while masturbating?  However that wart felt very hard and the bump on my penis is very soft.

About a week ago I noticed that this bump was surronded by red as if inflamed with a small white head, it looks very much like a pimple.  This was after a busy 4 day period in which I exercised a lot (I just started jogging) and was sexually active but did not shower (I know gross).  It is completely painless and oozes a small amount of pimple like pus, however it dose not pop like a pimple.  It doesn't really look like any pictures of HPV or herpes that I have seen on the web, nor is it in a cluster or have that cauliflower effect.

I have been in a a monogamous relationship for the past 5 months.  A month ago my girlfriend and I decided  to switch from using condoms, to just birth control and we both had urine and blood STD tests and came up negative for HIV, Syphilis, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea.  The only HSV test I have had was a few years ago from a pimple on my mouth which came back negative.  I have had about 12 partners (although oral sex with slightly more) in the 7 years I have been sexually active, most of my partners have been college age.  I have been good about using condoms and pretty much sticking to monogamous situations.

Yikes! Sorry I wrote so much.  Thank you for any help.  I have a doctors appointment next week but I have become quite anxious about this.  Thanks again!

No.  Warts aren't red and inflamed.

Since "it looks very much like a pimple", that's probably what it is.  Penile pimples are not rare.  Conceivably it could be molluscum contagiosum (you can look that up by searching the theards), but I doubt it.

It doesn't sound like herpes.  Herpes lesions are superficial, pimples deeper.  A good test is that you can think of herpes lesions as being "on" the skin, whereas pimples are "in" the skin.  If the lesion is firm or there is a lump under it, almost certainly it isn't herpes.

Of course the only way to know with certainty is to see a health care provider.
