Worried after sex with working girls

by stressedout1, Dec 08, 2005 12:00AM
Dear Doctor,

After hours of reading all of the forums I decided to post this question as I believ I have minor symptoms.  First a little history on myself.  I am 28 Male, I was diagnosed with ghonerea approximately 4 years ago in which I took Cipro and all symptoms went a way.

Recently I visited Amsterdam and since I have gotten back I have been very stresed as I have noticed a minor white bump, (looked more like an ingrown hair) in the middle of the shaft about 1 inch below the head.  This has gone away, however I still feel an irritation at the head of the penis, slight redness and when pressing hard I feel slight pain at the end of the ureathra...not sure on the spelling.

I don;t know if this is psychological due to my previous exposure to ghonerea.  Also I have been in a relationship and havent told my girlfriend about my trip, or my sexual encounters, so guilt can be adding to the stress of the situation.  Everything was protected oral and intercouse with condems(I never use a condom with my current partner of 2 years as she is on birth control). I also took Viagra and Cialis one of each on my brief trip of 4 days.   Its been on my mind since my return on 11/24.  I constantly examine my penis, I know I should go see my doctor, however have yet to make an appointment hoping these minor symptoms go away.

Also I ate mushrooms on my last night of the trip and masturbated for quite sometime.  Could excessive masturbation caused the irritation and redness?

Thanks for any help you can give, even though I'm sure you'll recommend I see my doctor.  I have a feeling it is just stress, guilt, use of condom(reaction), and possible over use...

No matter what I will see my doctor and get tested just to be safe, I was wondering what your thoughts are,
Thank you.

I can't make a diagnosis online, but your STD risk from condom-protected sex (especially oral sex) was low.  Your past gonorrhea, mushrooms, and erectile drug use are irrelevant.  Whether or not the masturbation was sufficiently vigorous to cause persisting redness is hard to say, but I doubt it.  I don't know how to interpret the "white bump"; depending on the details, it could be herpes, a sebaceous cyst, or any of several other things.  (If it's herpes, it is unlikely you acquired it from the Amsterdam exposures.)  The penile discomfort sounds consistent with either mild urethritis or with nothing at all.

Bottom line:  as you suggest yourself, you should see a health care provider if the symptoms persist.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

I'm not the doctor, but if it was all condom protected then you are fine. Pressing hard on ones penis does tend to hurt and constanly examining and thinking about it will make you see and feel all sorts of things that are normal. Condoms made you encounter safe from and std standpoint. I'm sure your fine.

Thanks for your words...I uderstand that since I used condoms everything should be fine, however when I contracted ghonerea I also used a condom, so this has me worried.

To: stressedout1 and Dr HHH
How did you get gonorrea while using a condom?  Did it break or come off?

It is my understanding that it is not possible to get gonorrea, chlymdia, hiv or any std that must enter the ureatha when using a condom. Dr HHH, do you have anything to add?

I asked the same question to my doctor at the time of my diagnosis.  He said even though I was wearing a condom there is a small chance that the ghonerea can be contracted.  I had sex with a prostitute at that time,  I guess I fell into the small chance.  Since then until my recent trip to Amsterdam I did not have any sex with prostitutes from my horrifying experience with ghonerea.  I think that since I felt I put myself at risk on my trip, psychologically I am causing these minor current symptoms.  I will never do such a thing again, its not worth it.
