Worries about exposure

by Ignorantman, Jan 08, 2009 08:32AM
I had protected sex with an escort, but unprotected oral sex (for 1 minute) with the same escort:

1) It has been 4 days now since this event, so far, except a slight painful sensation on the tip of my penis when i touch it, i dont think i have any other symptoms, how long does it usually take to notice something

2) how soon should i get an STD and HIV test to make sure i have nothing, i heard i should wait a while before the test is 100% accurate

3) Are there any STDS that are NOT treatable and could lead to infertility?

Worried... thanks.

There is no risk from your protected genital sex.  Condoms work.

As for receipt of oral sex, oral sex is an inefficient way to transmit STDs.  Of the bacterial STDs only gonorrhea and nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) are transmitted through oral sex; chlamydia is not and without an obvious sore or lesion on your partner’s mouth, the chances of syphilis and herpes is likewise tiny.   If you had gotten gonorrhea or NGU you would have most likely developed symptoms of urethritis (penile infection) by now although symptoms onset can sometimes take a week or so.  Even if your partner had an STD (any STD and it is likely she did not), most exposures do not lead to infection.  In your case, your exposure was brief; I would urge you not to worry. If you wish to be tested, testing at this time for gonorrhea and NGU would be accurate; you could go to your local STD clinic or health care provider to be tested at this time.

STD related infertility is very, very rare and when it occurs is due to treatable STDs.  This really is not a concern in your situation.

Hope this helps.  EWH

My  only question is the urethritis, i am not aware of what that is, would a standard STD screening, screen for that? i went to see my family doc and she gave me a referral to get a general STD screening (in CND we have to get that before going to the clinic to get tested). My question is, would urethritis be included in that screening, or do i have to ask to get tested for that? what syptoms (symptoms) would i see of this illness? thanks

Urethritis is a term for inflamation (inflammation) of the inside of the penis.  Gonorrhea and chlamydia cause urethritis.  In addition, in some NGU it is difficult to tell what is causing it.  When you get your STD screen you will be checked for urethritis as well.

Take care.  EWH
