Yearn to know more!

I had discharge from my penis and abdominal pain last month and my doctor advised me that that might be NSU since after several times of STDs checking on my urine. The medicine has stopped the discharge but the abdominal pain remains.

Recently, i found bright red spots (many) all around my penis and they really bother me a lots. They are a bit itchy and they turn to be wounded (like being cut) and being painful when they are cleaned with soap and water everytime after sexual intercourse.

I am very worried of myself since all these conditions i never had appear after having unprotective sex with an unknown girl. I am in the nightmare of HIV all these month and try to get the 13-week HIV test.

Please, i need a piece of your advice so that i can ease my mind. kindly reply as soon as possible. thanks!

Best Regards,
Triston

First, I'm not sure how to interpret your opening comments. Nongonococcal urethritis, or NGU (the same as "nonspecific urethritis" or NSU, but NGU is the preferred term) IS an STD.  You probably were tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia, but 60% of NGU has other causes that don't show up on routine testing.  On the other hand, NGU doesn't usually cause abdominal pain.

The rash you describe could be a yeast infection, sometimes triggered by antibiotics.  Herpes always comes to mind for genital sores, but your description doesn't sound much like herpes.  But until you know what's going on, you shouldn't be having sex with your girlfriend; she needs to be protected.  And she may need treatment to prevent recurrence of your NGU, if that hasn't been done.

The chance you got HIV from a single sexual contact is very remote; don't lose sleep over it.  And modern HIV tests turn positive within 6 weeks; you don't need to wait 13 weeks to be sure you aren't infected.

Good luck--    HHH, MD
