Yeast or Chlamydia?

On January 17, 2010 I had sex with a longtime friend..we used a condom, but there was an EXTREMELY brief moment where he "dipped" into me without one for a few seconds before intermediatly pulling out. A week or so later I began to have an increase of discharge. I could best describe it as clear, odorless sometimes white...kind of mucusy. At first I dismissed it as my body just changing since I had recently turned 20. But when the increased discharge persisted, in March I went to a Planned Parenthood to get it checked. The doctor diagnosed it as a yeast through a visual exam. She prescribed me some kind of cream, the name I forget, but after two nights I broke the tube and could no longer use it. So I opted to just get Monistat 7....which did NOTHING, the discharge remained and has remained with me until this day. Now I know the doc said it was a yeast, but I have no symptoms a yeast typically brings besides DISCHARGE. And I was reading that Chlaymida and Gonnorreah have similar symptoms. Can I be sure there was no way she could have mistaken the yeast for either or these two STDS? I just don't know why the Monistat didn't work.

Hi

(They'll probably delet your other post as its confusing to have posted twice --let's keep all conversations here on this thread)

We are glad to read you went to get checked.  WBC on the smear they took is indicative of an infection.  STD or not ---only the results will say.  Trich can cause this, also chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause them.   True, trich can clear in men, its also true that trich can be aquired from towels and stuff like that but usally its sexually aquired.  It doesn't sound like your partner from January knew his STD stauts, its possible you caught it from him.

Doctors misdiagnose all the time in eveything not only in that urology aspect, if you aren't happy with you medical visit you can always see a second doctor ---which I advice to always do.

Also getting a pap smear is not getting tested for STDs unless you ask for them.  A pap only checks for HPV cells or for cervial cancer cells  (Call you provider and ask if they tested for any STDs on your last pap).

good luck.

bv can be a booger to get rid of sometimes :(  if they are treating you with oral flagyl, might want to ask for vaginal flagyl ( metrogel ) and see if that works better for you.

I'm a fan of femdophilus by jarrow. you can even buy it on amazon - just keep it in the fridge once you get it ( shipping it in this weather is not an issue....lol ).  you take it 2x/day until you've been bv free for a few weeks and then switch to daily. terrific article about it on the jarrow website by dr gregor reid for more info.

Hey again guys. So I've still been having the exact same problem, went to to a different doc yesterday and this one says that she sees no more Trich but that I have vaginatus. They gave. Me the exact same pills -- which I told them had given me no results, but they insisted it had being that I no loneger have Trich , just a bacteria. Do you think it is possible that I am being constantly misdiagnosed? I don't understand how everytime I go its this then its that? Also is it possible I am resistant to this medicine? Starting to feel like ill have bv forever.

hi

We usally respond if you have a question we read this the first  time.    Continue working with your doctor and if you don't like, switch.  This is the lousy part of insuance companies you usally can not switch.   That's why I pay effecitive cash for my visits.   Lousy American Medical insurance system.

I went back to PP on the 8th. The doctor was extremely busy although I was early, and when she finally saw me she once again checked the discharge for me under the lense, I guess -- idk she left the room this time as opposed to the last time when she did it in front of me. She came back in after 3 minutes and told me she saw nothing wrong. i.e., that she didn't see any more Trichmonas. But I told her that I still felt exactly the same and that I know for a fact the discharge isn't normal, so she prescribed me Metronidazole again saying that "She could have missed the Trich this time, she's not perfect. There could still be icky poo poos a float."

However even after taking this medicine a second time, my symptoms are still the same. In my research I have learned that as of late, there have been a lot of new strains of Trichmonas that are resistent to the Metronidazole. And being that I had Trich for so long (since January) I have come to believe that I MUST be resistant to the Metronidazole if it's 97% effectiveness if having no effect on me even after two times. Also, my period is extremely late. I just don't know what to do. I am thinking of buying some Monistant and treating it as a yeast...maybe the discharge will stop then. I have to admit, this is depressing me. I just want to feel normal...again. :(

Go back to your doctor and ask for what could be done.
You should be having clear discharge by now.   Clear discharge is good.

Should eventually go away with more medication.  Go see your  medical provider.

Sighing a big sigh of relief right now to hear that my Gonno and Chlamydia both came back NEGATIVE. However, duuude this discharge will not go away it's the same as before. I know you said on average two weeks, so I'm going to wait it out. But I'm still like eh,..I thought there would at least be some difference by now. I did keep...you know, touching....and I did have a drink 24 hours after I was done with the 7 day pills but I don't know if that could have caused harm. Also now I'm beginning to have irrational fears again. Like even though I was negative for HIV at 7 months post the january exposure, what if other infections I may have caused a false negative? Eh...I know, dumb..impossible. But still I fret. I'm going to follow up with my doctor next week if this discharge persists, tho. Maybe I need another round of the medicine? I think it's now safe to say I tested for every STD...although I don't know if my December 09 blood-draw for "all stds" included Syphillis. :x...guess I gotta get the results pulled for that too...

Thanks for all and any advice.

It takes on average 2 weeks to get getter, and for symptoms to go away.   It took me over 4 weeks to get better.

It is NOT possible to reinfect yourself by masterbration during medication.

Also, another question. Say someone has an Std, and they masturbate themselves, while on treatment...is it possible for them tor reinfect themselves?

Thank you so much, you addressed and answered all of my questions so well. The medicine they gave me for the Trich does not seem to be working as I still am experiencing some discharge, and tomorrow is the last day on the pills. Wasn't it suppose to have been gone? I really am beginning to want to give up, and have yet to receive any calls on my results. However to answer your previous quesiton, when I did call and ask them if I had been tested for Chylamdia and Gonno back in november of 09, the answer was yes and negative. Sigh...

I went today and it was discovered to be Trich. After all this time. I'm really confused...

How did the first doctor miss that?

I haven't had sexual intercourse since Jan. 17th, and the discharge came shortly after. Now I have to wait three weeks for my Chlamydia and Gonno results, and I am kind of worried...

She said there were a lot of white blood cells in the discharge. What could this be?

I can't believe for this whole time period I've been trying to cure myself of a yeast I never had. I called the partner in question and he made it seem like I was bullshitting him, or that I probably had Trich before him. But this just can't be true, because prior to having sex with him I had my annual papsmear and everything was fine.

He said he would go and get it treated if it turns up he had it. But doing some reading about it I now see that it goes away after a while on it's on for men? I feel like I should have never told him he gave me something if he goes there and it turns out he doesn't have it.

Sigh.

Get tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea to rule them out.  Yes a doctor can do this.  GO see one.

I don't know...i am sure it is possible but can't say for sure.

Don't need an ins card to see a Dr, call INS company and get the ID# and claims address.

Yeah, I was going to go in today but I have to wait until my new insurance card comes in. I'm kind of worried because if she did misdiagnose me, and I do have something....it would mean I've had it for almost a year now since I've been having the discharge since January. The only thing I did since then was get a conclusive negative HIV test and have myself visually examined. To your knowledge, Vance, is there anyway a doctor could mistake Chlamydia for yeast? Because she swore she knew it was a yeast..
