anal sex and prostatitis?

by joshbn, Apr 04, 2008 01:19PM
hi,

I'm a 33 yo man. Though I've never been with a same sex partner since I was 15, I have developed a liking for stimulating the prostate during masturbation in order to enhance ejaculation. About a week after one such event, I began having severe symptoms which led me to suspect STD's initially. I was tested for HIV,HSV,gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamidia, all of which returned neg results. after about three weeks the symptoms passed. Several months went by before I again returned to my old ways. Once again, about a week after this my symptoms returned. This time they do not seem to be going away. It's been 5 weeks of ever changing symptoms. is prostatitis a possibility? caused by rectal trauma? MY symptoms at onset were a constant urge to void bladder which provided little relief, difficulty starting urine flow, pain and discomfort in entire pelvic region, and small mucusy stools. After two weeks these symptoms lessoned in their severity and I had more localized pain from my rectum, prostate, and my urethra midway between the tip and shaft. Also some mild skin irritation below the head of the penis which went away in a couple of days. Often I have tingling and itchiness around the base of the penis and testicles. My stools have returned to normal, but I now have chronic lower back pain. None of these symptoms seem to be constant, rather they come and go. Feeling better one day seems to have no effect on how i feel the next. Also the digital rectal exam detected no swelling of the prostate. I've been on Cipro for a month now with little effect. Being uninsured, I'm reluctant to visit a urologist for expensive tests. What I haven't experienced is pain with bowel movements, no blood in urine or semen or stools. My questions are: a)can anal sex cause prostatitis? b)can proctitis cause similar symptoms? what about HPV? Thanks for your insight.

Your questions are nothing that I could answer with any degree of credibility.

Any on-going pains/discomfort that you are experiencing should be put before a doctor.

You might be causing small tears, or fissures, in the rectum.  You should be seen by a doc to check on that or prostatitis, which is also a possibility.
