antibiotics not working? (continued)

by wonderingfor2, Jan 06, 2005 12:00AM
Went to my doctor, my urinalysis came back negative. I have to wait another 5 days before getting results back from culture he took

What's going on - is it possible that all those AB's didn't work (more likely for her, since my symptoms went away?)? If I had it again so soon after the first time, would my sypmptoms be so different? I'm stressed out over all this, and find it hard to wait another 5 days for the other results before I can know for sure whether I have chlam. again

My doctor said both because of all the AB's we each took, and combined with the fact my only symptom is frequent urination, he didn't think that I had chlamydia again. I'm sure you can understand my concern and it seems to me that the coincidence is too much.

On the other hand, I want to believe that all the antibiotics had to work and this must be something else (i.e. a "normal" urinary tract infection), but if so, how could the urinalysis come back clean? What else could it be? I've had epididimysis a few times in the past, but apparently don't have it now (or else the urinalysis wouldn't be clean, right?). I also have had a cyst on my left testical for a long time, in case that somehow factors into anything (an ultra sound showed it to be non-cancerous).

- hold the presses, just got a great call from my dr. - the chlamydia test came back negative, as was the urinalysis. Whew! Told me to drink lots of water and give it another 5 days or so before contacting him if it doesn't improve. Sorry to take up the space, but I'm so glad the call came when it did.

Had you not already seen your doctor I would have said much the same thing he did, i.e. strong doubt that chlamydia or any other STD was the problem.  I'm glad the test confirmed it.  His final telephone advice also sounds right on the money.

Good luck-- HHH, MD
