bump on lower shaft of penis

by kingair, Nov 30, 2004 12:00AM
I noticed yesterday that I had a bump that looked like an insect bite or pimple toward the bottom of the shaft of my penis. It does not itch, burn, or look like a wart or herpes. It is just one single red bump. I think this might be a pore that got infected. I tried to squeeze it at first not knowing what it was and nothing happened. I decided to leave it alone to not make it worse. I was checked for std's about 3 months ago and I am clean. I have been having sex with my girlfriend of three months as well(I was checked after we had intercourse). So I think I can rid the idea of an std, but it still worries me. It is difficult to get off my mind and would like to hear someone else's opinion. Any feedback to ease my worries would be great.

It sounds exactly like what you suspect yourself--a pimple or hair follicle infection.  If it clears up, forget about it.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

It sounds to me as though you are exactly right, and this is a hair follicle which has become infected.

Since you've been having sex for three months, I assume you've been using condoms for that amount of time too. If one of your pubic hairs got trapped by the condom and was slightly pulled away from its folicle but not entirely out, it's quite possible that that is what started this.

Treat is as a pimple - leave it alone for the most part - and only if it gets worse go and see your doctor.
