can herpes breakouts be as zit -like bumps

last year I had an encounter with a girl (used a condom but we did kiss several times).Two days later had extremely sore throat and flu symptoms that lasted 2weeks.over next 2 months intermittent   flu symptoms .At approx. 10 weeks I noticed a large zit like formation  on my check 2" from my mouth (somewhat ichy/stingy).I physically popped it after 4 days(white stringy puss came out).also smaller one formed near it took a week to get large enough to pop second one,then had similar bumps usually after shaving at lest 6-7 over 3 months then noticed tongue tightness feeling in places intermittently ,had sore throat lasting 4-5 months with symptoms of maliase and fatiague ,metal taste and tingle inside my mouth checks (also got small red dots intermittently along the bite line of my checks in different locations once a month lasting 1-3 days) .symptoms now seem to be almost non existant .doctors claim its not HSV1 and  that a blood test would not be able to prove anything,the tests done show clear on everything (no diabetis,hiv,syphilis,etc).I  have concerns about contagion as I haven't be out much in last 8-9 months but just noticed  2 similar bumps on my ex's check coverd by her hair,plus last week a girl I hugged and talk to came down with the flu (could it be the same thing, my check my have touched hers).
I may be paranoid but I'm also concerned

should note my doctor belives it to have  maybe been some kind of boil or cyst, I'm not convinced and could use other Idea's before paying for more medical expenses.
