canker sore - symptoms?

Hello doctor, I have asked you already about the the unprotected cunnilingus I gave to a prostitute and you answered the risk was very low. The incident happened 6weeks ago, and apart from one night sweat at day 21 i haven't had any symptoms. 4days ago a mouth ulcer appeared inside of my lower gum, and after reading few articles about mouth ulcers on the internet i found out it is very often associated with HIV. Obviously after having been calmed down I am a nervous wreck once again. Although I used to suffer from canker sores and aphtous in the past I am bit worried. Could you please let me know if you have any clinical experience with mouth ulcers and HIV patients? Thank you very much for your priceless help.

You have another canker sore, not HIV.  Almost everybody gets canker sores from time to time, and recurrences probably are more common in people who had them frequently in the past.  I don't know this for sure, but it fits with my personal experiece with canker sores.



Sores in the mouth may be a sign of HIV, but generally in persons with advanced immunodeficiency of the sort that typically takes many years to develop.  (Thrush--oral yeast infection--can occur soon after initial HIV infection, but that causes soreness of the mouth and white patches, not individual sores.)



You don't need to worry about HIV any more than you did when we discussed it in the earlier thread.
