cervicitis after trich diagnosis

Doctor,
In 02/05 I began having abnormal vaginal discharge, vulvar itching and swelling and went to the ob/gyn. They ruled it out as a yeast infection and gave me diflucan. Symptoms continued and finally at the end of April, they diagnosed it as trich. All other STD's showed up negative. Trich was resistant to treatment and had to take several doses of Flagyl, ended up taking too much and had allergic reaction. My partner was also treated with Flagyl.
I went to the doctor in July and all tests came back negative, but I am having a white, mucus discharge that the doctor related to cervicitis. The discharge changes with my cycle, but I am on the patch and the doctor mentioned that typically you don't experience those changes while on birth control. He did not prescribe me any medicine and just told me to come back for my annual in March. I am worried that the trich or cervicitis will lead to infertility and/or PID. I have been to the doctor at least 10 times during this ordeal and even swiched doctors. I feel like I am not getting any answers. Also, if the trich is gone and has been since May why am I still experiencing inflammation in September? Is it possible something is lying dormant? Please help.

I would like to help, but do not think I can. If you and your partner have not been tested for other common STDs (gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc), be sure that is done (but I suspect these have been done already). Trich doesn't cause PID or infertility, and cervicitis not due to chlamydia or gonorrhea has never been shown to cause them either. Nonchlamydial cervicitis is a mystery in many ways, but does not appear to be harmul.
If you aren't confident either of your doctors are on top of things, get yet another opinion. If you are in a major metropolitan area (and perhaps elsewhere), you might be able to find a gynecologist who specializes in infections; there are such people at many academic medical centers, for example.
