circular rash/blister/ mark on penis shaft

by confused13, Jul 30, 2005 12:00AM
I recently developed a circular mark on the shaft of my penis.  The edge of the circle looks darker than the rest, and the skin is slightly rough... it's probably 1/8th inch in diameter and there is no pain involved.  I thought herpes, but there is no pain involved and it isn't a blister of any sort.  Can I get ring worm on my penis?

Yes, tinea (ringworm) infections can and do occur on the penis.  But so do other kinds of dermatitis.  I agree with your own assessment, it doesn't sound like herpes or any other STD.  You could try an OTC product for jock itch.  But if it doesn't clear up promptly, see a healhcare provider, perhaps go directly to a dermatologist.  Do not use steroid creams (hydrocortisone etc).

Good luck--  HHH, MD
