clamydia

I have been married for 21 years and I had a blood test for clamydia it came back positive.  I have not been with another man for 22 years my husband tells me that he has not been with anyone else.  My question is how would I have gotten this?  Thank you

I was pregnant two years ago, never had problems getting pregnant. I am pretty keen to find out which test I took now.  And yes, I did already take the antibiotics treatment.

I had a hysterectomy in 93.  Do you know how long it stays in your body and does it re occur without being infected again?  I have never been diagnosed with it before.  I am just trying to find out for my own peace of mind, if it was from 20 years ago or now.  Thanks for all your input

IgA would be another type of antibody, not an antigen test.  But Tommy420 is right about the current/past infection status with IgA and IgG.

The one thing that I've heard is that chlamydia blood tests are pretty unreliable compared to other tests.  Did you already take treatment?  It would not be a bad idea to confirm the positive result with a urine based DNA (NAAT) test just to make sure it's not still showing a past infection.

From what I've read about this issue, it's the IgA blood test that shows a current infection.  I believe it looks for antigens if I'm not mistaken.  The IgG and IgM tests only show if you had an infection at one point or another.  Have any of you two ladies had any problems with the ability to get pregnant?

I'm curious about the chlamydia tests.  My test came up positive from the swab test. I've been with my husband for 9 years now, and we both have been completely faithful.  We were both shocked to find out that I tested positive.  Tommy420 if I understand you correctly the IgG and IgM tests only show if you had an infection at one point, not if you currently have one?  Hopefully I had the IgA test and I truly did have the infection, because otherwise, it was a lot of upset for nothing.  I just find it so hard to believe I could have an infection for 9 years and not show any symptoms.

It was an AB PNL IGG, IGA, IGM.  The IGG was High and the IGA was high.  DO you know how long it stays active in your body?  Thanks

This is tricky.  There are many different types of blood tests for chlamydia.  The three main ones are IgG, IgM, and IgA.  Which one did your doc do?  I believe it's only the IgA that will show a current infection.  The other ones, even if they are positive, simply mean that at one point or another you were infected with Chlamydia.  It's just like a regular Hep B antibody test.  If someone gets infect with Hep B, it will clear by itselt in 90% of adults...however if you have an antibody test later on, it will show positive b/c your body had built antibodies against it.

In another words, all your blood test shows is a past infection, unless it was an IgA.  Most doctors, believe it or not, don't know much about blood tests for chlamydia.

The reason I had a blood test was because previous blood work indicated that I had inflammation and the Dr. didn't know where it was coming from.  I am not sure why she thought to do this.  My husband has denied being with anyone else that is why I question how long would it stay in your body.  Although I have never been diagnosed I did have a hysterectomy in 93 because of dysplasia.  Thanks
