It is standard policy that anything removed from someone needs to be sent to the pathology lab for confirmation of what it is. Your situation is a classic reason why it's done - your provider's visualVisual acuity test diagnosis was wrong. No reason to doubt the pathology report of hpv but if you really think you won't rest easy until you do get a 2nd opinion you can request one to be done.
Being careful would mean that you'd never have sex with anyone when it comes to hpv. It's incredibly common and condoms don't always help reduce transmission of it. No reason to freak out - it's an inconvenience and nothing more.
