concerned of STD

Hey, Thank you so much for what you are doing, its great. Ok, here's the story...Around 2 months ago I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend. I'm not to sure of her sexual background. She has told me that she is clean but I don't know if she actually got tested or if she is just saying that. That is the only time I have had sex with her. The only problem I've had is slient discomfront, which has been going on for 3 days now, and thats it. Last week I went to the dermatologist and he tested me mainly for HIV and Syphilis. I'll be getting the results back early next week. I'm really worried but I want to be as optimistic as possible. My question is that I just wanted to know the chances of me contracting anything from her, that is if she is infact infected with anything. Thanks for the help!

Sorry, not enough information to help you:  "slight discomfort" could be anything (where? what type? other symptoms?); and from the scant information you provide, I have no way of predicting whether or not your partner is at high or low risk of carrying an STD.

The most common STDs you would acquire certainly are not HIV or syphilis; those tests probably are useless.  Chlamydia, and perhaps gonorrhea, would be much more likely, especially if "discomfort" refers to your urethra or penis.  A urine test for those infections probably would make more sense than blood tests for syphilis and HIV.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Hey, sorry for the lack of information. I'll try to give as much information as possible.

The slient discomfort is mainly aound the penis. It has actually slacked up a lot since the first post. As far as other symptoms, the only other symptom is slient tingling in my scrotum and left toes but that has only been going on for a few days. I've had no discharge and no burning when I pee. The girlfriend hasn't had any sypmtoms of anything. She just found out she has multiple sclerosis so she has been dealing mainly with that. This is the only time I've had sex with her. Its been around 2 months since the exposure and these problems that I mentioned above started around 3 days ago after I visited the doctor. I know you're asked this question a lot but could a lot of this be because of anxiety? If I did infact have an STD wouldn't I have had the symptoms a long time ago? thanks for you time.

Again, sorry for being so unclear before. My apologizes.

I forgot to add a few things. About 3 or 4 weeks ago I did get sick. I felt nauseous and throw up 3 times. This all happened in a spand of  2 days and then I was prefectly fine. Also, about 3 weeks ago, I had a red spot on the shaft of my penis for like 3 days and then it went away and I haven't had any sign of it again. Do you think any of that had anything to do with any stds, hiv or do you think it has nothing to do with any of it? Thanks again.

None of those symptoms sound like an STD.  Presumably the dermatologist who recommended the HIV and syphilis tests examined the "red spot"; if not, ask him or her to do so.  I can't tell anything from an on-line description.  I doubt you acquired anything from the exposure you describe.  As I said before, consider a urine test for gonorrrhea and chlamydia for final reassurance.
