despite medication - tested positive

Dear Docs,

first, i would like to tell you i appreciate very much your work and ask you to forgive my poor english since i'm from Brazil.

My story is this. About two months ago i had sex with a CSW. Protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral sex. One week later (approximately) i started to feel a burning sensation on my penis, not only when urinating (but getting worse when doing this). I went to the doctor, who asked me some tests, including the chlamydia one. All came negative. Besides, he also prescribed me 10 days (twice a day) of 100mg doxy, 3 days of 500mg of another antibiotic (which name i dont remember, azithromycin i believe) and pyridium for the pain.

Everything became better, but about 2 weeks ago the symptoms came back. Continuous pain, getting worse when urinating and a very mild (and doubtful) clear discharge. It can hardly be seen and i am not very sure if this semen or urine. I tested again and the results came:

direct immunofluoresence monoclonais chlamydia: POSITIVE

urethral secretion culture: NEGATIVE

It also came negative to Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis. I don't know what to think about. Could give me some enlightenment. What do the results above mean? Can the positive one be because dead bacteria fragments or something like that? Am i likely infected?

Please help.

Thank you very much.

MMT

Hi Groo,

DR. HHH with no offence to his experience is worng about that. My Dr. said I had rectal chlamydia which could have lived there or in my throat and transfered orally because I always had unprotected oral and pprotected anal.

It is easier to get chlamydia, gono and syphillis orally than HIV and others.

I finfshed my dose of Doxycycline yesterday (he gave me same as you bu totld me to take tehm all for 2 weeks).
I am goign to test otehr things again tmr and Dr. said he will call me.....

Good Luck,
FWK

there is one last point i dont understand. Doc HHH has always said that oral sex is not an effective way to transmit chlamydia. Since my exposure was only unprotected oral (receiving) and protected vaginal and considering all information already posted by me, how is it possible that i am (still!!) infected with chlamydia???

It could have been too early to test the first time, and this test could be showing dead DNA, assuming you did a urine or swab test.

However, you are having symptoms.  You might want to do another round of treatment.

i would like to add that the wbc count (5000 leukocits/mL) was considered normal and that the urine culture was also negative.
