after 19 years of marriage i was just diagnosed with genital herpes. my husband swears he has not been with any one it must have been dormant. i have never heard of the virus being dormant this long. this is really messing with my marriage. IS IT POSSIBLE FOR HERPES TO BE DORMANT FOR 18 YEARS OR AM I BEING LIED TO.
I believe it is possible for the Herpes virus to be dormant for many years which is why many people don't know they actually have it,your husband should get tested and the antibodies would tell whether this is a recent infection or whether it's been around a while.... also it could be that it has nothing to do with your husband it could be you who has had it for years, did you find out if you have been recently infected ????
If you don't know for sure what type you have, you should ask your doc about it, and don't let them tell you it doesn't matter - it does. Your husband should also get a type specific IgG blood test done.
You can read more about it in the herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com
