I posted earlier wanted to give more info.

I am a 46 yr old gay man. I have had several partners in past year and always used protection. But Oral sex was not with condom.  I have dealt with prostatitis off and on for over 10 years more off than on lately.  about 7 - 8 weeks ago I started getting a intense itch and burning sensation in my groin and around my scrotum, it varied from day to day. Could not see anything. I went to doc and he prescribed antibiotic as he usually did for the prostatitis. after 3 weeks no improvement and actually for a few days it felt like my scrotum was on fire, not too red though. The itching is on scrotum and between scrotum and anus and around anus I went back to see him a week back and told him i did not think it was prostatitis after almost 4 weeks of antibiotics. He looked and said maybe fungal and prescribed lamisil cream 2 x daily for two weeks and if no improvement he would send me to urologist.

Now I notice bumps on the shaft of my penis. some clustered at base and some midway up. they seem to be under the skin and seem sensitive, and itchy from time to time.  I have had some on my penis for as long as i can remember and they never change. These seem new. I have been all over the place thinking this or that and am coming up with genital warts.

I was tested for herpes/with the select test and neg for type 2 and  pos for type 1. Also had Hiv test which was negative.

What do u think?
Is a urologist the right type of doctor to diagnose and treat genital warts or any std?  I want to go to the right place and get this dealt with.

It sounds like you indeed have some sort of dermatitis involving the scrotum and groin, maybe a fungus, perhaps an infection called erythrasma.

The penile bumps sound like the could be warts, but of course I can't tell without seeing them.

A dermatologist is a better bet than a urologist, for both problems.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Do look into the possibility of them being pearly penile papules, which are a very very normal part of many (possibly most) men's genital skin "landscape."
