genital hsv1

by confused647, Sep 08, 2008 01:09PM
I was recently diagnosed with genital hsv-1. My boyfriend performed oral sex while he had a cold sore. I am on medication now and the outbreak is getting better.

I would like to know what the chances are of me spreading the virus to anyone else?
Should I tell future partners if I dont have another outbreak?
I just need some perspective as to how much of a big deal i should make this into..?

I also have been having some eye problems lately. my  cornea is fine and there is no pain, but i was curious as to whether or not these two episodes could be linked in any way.

I would appreciate any help.
thanks

Hi there -

We don't have any real studies done on ghsv1, but we do know that it sheds a lot less than hsv2 does - 3% of days/year compared to 15% of days/year, so you aren't likely to transmit it.

Also, if your partner has hsv1 antibodies, its even less of a chance.

You should see our herpes forum for more info on this.
