gonorrhea and clamydia

Ok i have been with my husband for 2 years and my last partner was 3 years ago...so my husband had irritation of his penis , severe swelling, rash x 3 weeks went to er 3 times just being diagnosed with yeast infection and balantitis, however the 3rd time they prescribed him doxycycline, rocephin and something for the itching. Now i know doxy and rocephin are the treatments for gonorrhea and chlamydia but they didnt check for that to my knowledge. I am 100% sure he hasn't cheated and either have i however my question is , is it possible that i have gonorrhea or chlamydia for 3 years without any symptoms? I'm going to the dr tonight just to be safe..

I'm so nervous just wanted to have a little more insight ..thanks

The typical treatment duration for doxycycline is 7-10 days.

Have you been tested or do you have any symptoms?

no it won't stop the doxy.

no real reason to retest for either. if you need the peace of mind though, wait a month.

not likely that you'd have had it this long and just now passed it onto your partner. same goes with not like he'd have had it this long and just now be having symptoms.

it depends on what they ordered . they can check for std's with urine but they might not have ordered anything like that.

unfortunately you have no legal right to know what he was tested for . it's going to be up to him to get his results to share with you.

pap tests are not std testing.  they are for cervical cancer screening and the way they can detect some std's isn't very accurate anyways.   you need separate testing for std's to know your status.

have you specifically asked your husband why they gave him all those medications and if they did any std testing on him?

you might also want to cover your bases and both of you seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing too just to finish covering the bases.   It can sometimes cause these symptoms and not be diagnosed properly so just cover it all while you are at it.

At this point he should not be going to the ER for these issues. He should be seeing his regular doctor or a dermatologist if he is still having symptoms. ER's don't do a good job at things like this - they are more broken bones and heart attacks than skin issues.  if this really is just a fungal infection, all the antibiotics they threw at him needlessly will just make things worse too :(

Thank you for your prompt response, Yes his symptoms have resolved and he feels fine, I'm just worried because i also just found out that my previous pap's were not tested for these std's, I have always had white discharge once had a yeast infection with a little odor for a day cleared up with yogurt and once we had sex and it was painful but that was after a lot of sex, but nothing that ever lasted more then one day. I know its strange they didn't test him i don't know why.

It's not likely you have either of these infections and it's very strange they would treat your husband without testing and without having symptoms of Gonno or Chlamydia.  Emperical treatment is usually given when there is discharge present or the patient is complaining about dysuria, etc.  Are you certain they didn't do any testing?  Has his treatment help resolve the symptoms?  Has he started using any new soaps or have you two been using new lubes for sex or spermacide?  I ask because if he does have any urethritis, it could be chemically induced and would eventually go away on it's own once the irritant is no longer used.

The chances of you having either of these infections for 3 yrs without knowing is pretty close to zero.  Please do not feel nervous and do not feel like you're the cause of this.  If you have not had any relations outside your marriage, there is no way you could have caused something like this.  It may not even be STI related at all for that mattter.  If your husband continues to have problems, he should get a thorough examination with testing.  Good luck and let us know how things turn out.
