dear dr

on 04-10-2010 i have received unprotected oral sex, from a csw for 3 minutes top without condom and i ejaculate outside her mouth,
after 6 months or even 7 months one day i was taking my bath i noticed itchy feeling between my groin,it was red rash it was itching me little bit specially under  warm water, i started using fenestil creme but it didnt work, the pharmacist put me on fungus treatement,coz i had a severe athltetic foot and i my pure hygene in that matter i used to itch my toes in both legs with my fingers and never wash my hand :( so i develop rash on my arms under  my armpit , on my stomach,betwenn my toes all of these places where few, mostly between my thighs i have some picture if i can show u, after my athletic foot was gone, i called my doctor at  home and told him,my fungus treatement didn.t cure my rash, so he told me not to panic just to  sit in the sun and take sunbathing and put cream, i was searching the net  i saw the syphilis rash on palms and sole of the feet, i never see anything like that on my  palms nor my sole feet,i am so  scred my rash was gone after 3 months,the doctors suspected to  be kind of parapsoriasis,i told him about my fear to syphilis he said it is not so,but i cant have a syphilis test to ease my mind, i  didnt have the power to do it i donno why,
plz answer my questions::

can i have syphillis from that incident, uprotected oral sex, i didnt see no  chancre arround her mouth

2-i didnt develop  any chancre on my penis  as primary syphilis, do u think this rash is related to syphilis?

3-i have done a blood test to check my blood the doctor ask me to do white cell count and another test i forget his name is to see if there is any inflamation in my body and everything was normal, there was no inflamation and the test was done in july 2011

For your reassurance -   (rough figures)

Chances she had syphilis (in UK/USA/most developed countries - 1 in 30 000

Chances she had it orally -  roughly a fifth of those with syphilis have it orally

Chances you would have seen rash/chancre - 1/4

Chances it passed on - 1/2

Chances you got it without symptoms (or went unnoticed) - 1/5

Chances your doc didn't pick it up - 1/10  (estimation - probably higher)

Chances it gives long term health issues - 1/5

Can you see how low risk you had?

If you suspect syphilis .. which I don't think you have .. go to a doctor or STD clinic. It won't take 2 seconds to get tested and it's worth it - and remember it's not too late for syphilis (takes years to cause long lasting damage usually). I worry like you too (real anxiety issues) and have infact been in your exact situation. The ONLY risks ; gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, syphilis and NSU - nothing else. I went to doc and was only tested for Chlam/Gonn - doc didn't even see any point in testing for syphilis as it's so rare and only in the presence of real symptoms should I go back (painless chancre and rash over hands and feet - feeling unwell too). I hope I have calmed you down - receiving oral is low risk and without any other symptoms you don't need testing!

Okay calm down first of all. I'm not sure where you're from but certainly in most developed countries eg UK and USA syphilis is exceedingly rare. In the UK (similar to US) there are around 3500 effected - 60% of which are homosexual. The amount of people that also have it orally means you should not worry about it - on top of the fact that you didn't see anything, it's not always passed on and she's a sex worker (they often get check ups and are usually clean). Most people also develop symptoms with syphilis (cancre or wide spread rash usually hands and feet are involved). Oh and btw - syphilis doesn't always cause long term health problems (10 - 20 % turn serious without treatment). Can you see that you'll be alright?
