There is really nothing else for me to say. You asked for a professional opinion. You got it. You cannot accept that the weight of evidence indicates the you do not have herpes preferring to believe your misperceptions based on information taken out of context. At this time, once again I urge you to seek the help of a counselor or other mental health professional to help put your concerns in a more realistic perspective.
This will end this thread and no new questions will be accepted. I wish you the best of luck. EWH
thank you again very much for the post. sincerly apoligize for asking. I know that you beleive I am being unreasonable. The only reason I feel this was is 1) i had penile discharge that was milky and yellow with pain. This verified in my mind that I had an STD. 2) my igM test came back LOW POSITIVE, not negative (and I have never had an outbreak of my HSV1). 3) if I do not have herpes, gonorea, or clyamedia, I am just very worried that it could be HIV. I know that it is still that I have no specific symtoms, just taken together I am very worried. I am sorry, i just don't know where else to turn.
As I said before, your stress and paranoia is inappropriate. I will explain this below but, before I do, just suppose you get herpes -so what. You would join the other 1 in five Americans who have this very, very common STD. It’s a problem and would then require you to exhibit some personal responsibility for management and to avoid infecting un-infected partners but that really is not the end of the world. Furthermore, if you've got it (which I am confident is most unlikely), what good does worrying do for you. It cannot be undone, just managed.
AS for the "symptoms" you are concerned about, please realize that each and every symptoms you complain of is TOTALLY NON-SPECIFIC. For instance, your "flu-like illness" - sure, some people with herpes develop flulike illness with their first episode (typically along with lesion development which do did not experience) but these symptoms are actually present in the far, far more people who actually get the flu, who get other non-STD viral illnesses, who have medication side effects, and who have a host of other problems. Similarly, anal itching - again, non-specific and this symptom is also a sign of hemorrhoids and is present in people who get both constipation and diarrhea among its many other causes, all of which are cumulatively more common than anal itching due to HSV, particularly in a person who has not had rectal sexual exposure. I will not work through the multiple other symptoms you have other than to point out that they too are non-specific.
Most of the people who are unaware that they have herpes are unaware because they attribute the ulcers and other signs of infections to other causes. this is clearly not your problem. You have no complaints that, when taken together suggest herpes. In addition you have been examined by a trained health care professional who told you that you have nothing to worry about and you have a negative blood test at a time when over half of persons who got herpes would have positive tests. You need to stop worrying. My suggestion that you seek counseling remains my recommendation. EWH
