herpes from mutual masturbation

by frankuk, Jul 24, 2008 10:29AM
Hello,

Is it possible to catch herpes from mutual masturbation by this i mean:

Masturbating a female with my hand and then masturbating myself with the same hand.

This occurred 6 days ago, i regularly inspect myself and there does not appear to be any blisters, however there is a itch on part of my penis head but no redness or blisters there.

Also the female was on acyclovir.

Thanks

Is it possible?  Perhaps, at least in theory.  However, no such case of HSV transmission has ever been reported and I certainly have never seen any patients in whom there was suspicion they caught genital herpes that way.  Even with unprotected vaginal sex, the chance of transmission is pretty low for any particular episode of sex, and is even lower when the infected person is taking an antiherpes drug like acyclovir.

Bottom line:  No significant risk, nothing to worry about.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD
