herpes in the mouth? Grace

Hi,

I know HSV 1 is generally not seen as an STD, but I thought this forum may be helpeful.

The other day I noticed my throat felt dry. An hour later it began to hurt and two hours later I could barely swallow. The symptoms came on so suddenly. I looked at the back of my throat and noticed there were some white spots in front of one tonsil and on the tonsil there were about two crater-like ulcers. The entire right tonsil is white, with the ulcers and only affects one side. I went to my student health center and the doctor didnt' think it was herpes, but she wasn't sure. She did say there are many viral infections that can cause similiar symptoms. I'm nervous this is herpes because it only affected one side and i heard that it is common to have ulcers inside the mouth during the primrary outbreak.

Does anyone have any thoughts? I am seeing someone new. I have never been exposed to hsv 1 or 2 but my partners just got his bloodwork back. It was equivocal for hsv 1 (thoguh the doc said negative) and positive for hsv 2. We haven't engaged in any oral sex.

Did they do a throat culture to check for strep? That's the most likely cause of these symptoms.
