herpes or yeast infection?

I'm going a bit insane here because I'm worried that I might have genital herpes.
I had sex with someone for the first time in over a year and a half, we used a condom both times, and I didn't see any sort of sores or wounds on his genitals.
a couple days after I noticed a thick white clumpy discharge and my vaginal opening and labia minora were quite sore so I went to a clinic to get tested, the doctor said it didn't "look" like herpes but we'd have to wait for the test results to come in (which I'm still waiting for). So I basically went with having a yeast infection and started the 3 day medication.
This didn't only effect my vagina but my whole area including my clitoris. It hurts to wipe and sometimes to urinate when I haven't drank enough water (from what I gather).
There are some small sores in the area that are red colored but I think they may have come from the irritation of it all. Sometimes I notice that the discharge is a slight pink color which I can only assume is minor bleeding from irritation or spotting.
I used the second days medication last night and most of the discharge is gone, but I'm still pretty sore down there  and that's beginning to scare me. It still really hurts to wipe and my vaginal enterance hurts a lot but it feels better in general and doesn't hurt as much when I sit or am just walking around.
I'm just concerned, I've looked at herpes pictures and it doesn't look like that, and I do think it's a yeast infection but they are so similar that I don't know what to think anymore.

Oh and if your partner performed oral sex on you, you could get genital herpes type 1 that way, if he has herpes type 1 orally.  This could happen even if he didn't have a cold sore at the time.

I'm not saying you have herpes, just that its a possibility.

It could be herpes and a yeast infection, or either one.

In any case, your doctor should have given you some valtrex or acyclovir to help, in case you do have herpes.

When you pee, pour water over yourself.  That helps dilute the acid in your urine, and that will help it not hurt as much, whether its yeast or herpes.  And as you mentioned, make sure to be drinking plenty of water, which will do the same.

Have you gotten more sores since you saw the doctor?  If you have, don't hesitate to call the doctor (yes, I know its the weekend, but you pay this man and they expect to get calls on the weekends), and let him know and ask for an antiviral, just in case.  It won't hurt you to take it if it turns out you don't have herpes.

Good luck!
