herpes swab,

Hello Dr. HHH,

Ive tested positive for hsv 1 through an internal penile swab,  im curious if this means i have genital hsv1,  Could it mean i simply have the virus in my body? is it possible to have the virus orally and be tested through your penis.

i have a reddish outbreak that is never soar or blisters. its "waxy" looking sometimes. my penis can smell as well more potent that urine and sweat.  My quesiton is  ive had this for a month now. ive tried acyclovir? with no result. the "outbreak" can go up and down during 1 day  being barely noticeable to about the size of  a dime and red. two dr's looked at it and said it doesnt look like herpes it may be yeast. however thier is now discharge that i am aware of. im just confused, i have an appt with a top dermotologist in mid August. REmember : No itch, pain, tingle, fluid or discharge. Has a foul smell starting 4 hours after a shower.  changes shape size and colour on a daily basis.?

sorry that statement is incorrect,  however thier is now discharge that i am aware of. im just confused, i have an appt with a top dermotologist in mid August.

Hi there -

It sounds like you have genital herpes type 1, but this spot you've had for a month isn't herpes.  I would call and see if you can get in with the derm sooner than that.

Oh and you don't have herpes throughout your body - its either oral or genital.  Since you had a type specific genital swab, you have genital herpes.

I'd totally with Jess - you can't wait until mid august to deal with this. I'd actually make an appointment with your regular provider for more follow up since you now have a discharge. Have you been tested for other std's? Have they sent off urine samples to check for infection? Have you been examined for prostatitis too?

It's not unusual for hsv1 genitally to shed/reoccur when something else is going on. Since antivirals aren't making a dent in your symptoms it means that it's more thanjust your hsv1 genital infection going on .

yeah im curious myself. the spot seems to stay too long and changes like the weather where as herpes seems to OB then scab heal  mine just grows shrinks seems to follow no particular pattern. also grace sorry, their is no discharge i incorrectly typed that statement.
i just want to know what this spot is  one way or another good or bad, just to ease my mind. yes ive been tested for everything,  positive for hsv1 not shur if it was positive from swab or blood test. i was previously told i have had hep c then was told it was a false positive. even though its just herpes 1, herpes is herpes and i cant help but to find myself severly depressed sleeping my sleep every minute im not working or on this website.
i was wondering if u could recommend some kind of cream for my penis. its on the head near the urethra but not touching it. i am circumsized if that makes a difference.

the only place i notice tingleing is in my nose it can actually go numb at times and i have what i thought to be painful mucas stuck to my nose that i peeled off. . is their any cream i should put on my penis over the counter just as a precaution if it is yeast.

I wouldn't treat it until you know for sure what is going on.  If you have a herpes outbreak, and use an antifungal, it can make it worse.

I'm not sure why you are so depressed, but that should ease in time.  If depression is not new for you, then don't hesitate to get help for it.

it sounds like these has been a lot of confusion with a lot of things. I recommend you making an appointment with your regular doctor for this week and going to be seen and properly examined.
