by smokey1234, Aug 05, 2007 05:59PM
I recently had unprotected sex 7/27/07 with a women and she told me she was hsv 2 pos  but had no sym and was on valtrex that she started taking 2 days prior to our encounter she also said she had no outbreaks for at least 1 month prior  and prior to that at least a year ob free
2  days after our encounter i began to get burning sensation in my right pelvic area between my scrotem and inner thigh  also lower right base of penis also my penis skin is kinda shinny in that same area. a day or 2 after that i get sharp pinching feeling in different  parts of penis  just quick and go right away also getting burning feeling in feet that seems to subside if i elevate my feet.
i have inspected my penis and  see no sores red spots noting on penis shaft or head  i had one sore on scotum but i shave genital area and looked like irritated hair  no pain or fluid filled and never burst or broke open
what i would would like to know cause i thought i read somewhere that burning is a sym of herpes but can't find where i read

1 is burning skin and burning feet a sym of herpes
2 if burning is there shouldn't  there also be lessions
3 if no lessions by 10 or so days  is it pretty safe no virus transfer
4 what is minimum time to wait to get a reliable blood test for type 2 i know 14 to 16 weeks is prefered  but  is 6 or 7 weeks fairly realiable
5 if sym come and go  on and off does that meen not symtoms of hsv2  i was told they are  either there or not  not itermitent the burning not  always there if i am  naked and my skin not touching burning goes away or at least not as bad
6 if  does not sound like herpes any ideas   u think maybe jock itch that has started there and migrated to feet from drying off after shower  tried jock itch spray lotramin ultra af but not really helping

any thing else  u want to know let me know  this is all i can think of at the moment
any advice would be appricated ty

Clearly you were in a low risk situation with respect to herpes; and your symptoms don't suggest it.  To your specific questions:

1) Those are not symptoms of HSV of either type or of genital herpes.  Herpes doesn't frequently occur in the lcoation you describe; and the first outbreak of genital herpes in men just about always involves the penis (or anus in gay men).

2) People with herpes can be entirely asymptomatic. But if they have symptoms, the symptoms alwasy include lesions.

3) Yes.

4) I recommend against HSV testing in the circumstance you describe.  But if you insist, a negative result at 6-7 weeks will be partially reassuring.  But you are correct that it takes 3-4 months to be certain.

5) Herpes symptoms generally last 1-2 weeks and recur every 1-4 months.  And in between those 1-2 week outbreaks, there are no symptoms at all.  More frequent symptoms cannot be herpes.

6) The location is typical for jock itch, but that causes a visible red rash.  In the absence of a visible rash, anxiety sounds like the best explanation.  But if in doubt, it can't hurt to try an over-the-counter treatment for jock itch.  Or see a health care provider for proper diagnosis.  But put herpes out of your mind.

thanks doc for your quick response i got one more question i took shower tonight and felt a stronger burning than normal i narrowed it down to the area just below the head of penis  in the soft darker colored skin i found two little raised areas that sting to the touch and that do seem a little red.
one has kinda white in it almost like a pimple and other just red both sting  neither look like a water blister and never seen them before both only about the size of tip of ball point pen and a 1/16 in appart  does this sound like could be herpes and should i goto dr asap to have him culture or could it just be irritated skin since it is in the area of penis that lays directly on pubic region that has stubble coming back in  ((((may be a miner cut with irritation)))) . it has been 9 days since encounter with burning after 2 if it was herpes shouldn't it of  showed up and been almost done by now  as far a sores apairing since burning been there for 7 of the 9 days

ah i cant post a question because there is too many but hopefully you'll see my question here ! i was wondering if it is possible for me (female) to have gotten herpes from being   fingered and briefly (probably under 20 seconds) of oral sex.  since that (2 weeks ago) ive had intense itching and some soreness in my genitals but no burning sensation i dont think; i mean it itches so i guess that could feel like burning too ? i dont know i guess it could be burningish . im pretty sure i do have a yeast infection as i almost always do due to being on constant antibiotics, but i dont know what would have caused these symptoms all of a sudden.  ive also noticed two paper cut looking cuts that are very sore on the lips of my vagina. they almost look like the shape of a nail so im not sure would have caused those.  i am so worried about a possible std.  that was my first time doing anything below the waist and i am too young to go and get tested without my parents knowing .. please help me !!!

Normally I don't answer questions in thread jumps, but I'm making an exception.

You cannot get herpes from fingering--at least too unlikely to worry about.  Yeast sounds possible. But you simply cannot go on making assumptions and guesses without getting health care.  If you're in the US, all states have laws that permit young persons to be evaluated and treated for possible STD without getting parents' consent.  (In most states, the age cut-off is 12, 13, or 14 years.)  Free, confidential care--without your parents' knowledge--probably is available at your local health department, or at a teen clinic.  Telephone your local health department right away to learn the options in your community.

Sorry, no follow-up discussion.  Just do it.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Hi Doc.

Quick follow up to my original post

I did find two little red inflamed spots just below the head of penis in the darker skin from circumsion
That was the source of the burning feeling it has been constant since 7/27/07

I went to my pcp he looked at it said suspicious of warts  but nothing like typical herpes so he referred me to a urologist went there seen him he is a ex- military dr.  And said he has seen plenty of
herpes infections and did not look like any type of herpes and that it was probably yeast  told me to put clotmizole cream on it for 2 weeks if no improvement call pcp and get fluconazole 150 single dose   cream did not help and neither did the pill

so next I went to dermatologist had him look at it he said not warts and not herpes plus herpes would not be present for over a month and that yeast probably not the cause either also said that urologist just picking at straws on that diag. dermatologist said it was inflammation most likely of the nerves causing the burning sensation and that the feet burning could be do to nerves also

So could these burning skin symptoms be caused from lubrication in condom because we had sex twice that weekend 1st with lubricated condom then one with out I never mentioned the with condom  episode cause not concerned about std’s with  that one and without treatment for irritation could it last over a month with irritation.(((( forgot to ask derm this )))))

also I understand that sores not signs of herpes  but if I have inflamed nerves causing burning in penis  and lower legs and both feet  could that be do to virus in nerves in back  and it just not presenting  lesions  also even if virus in nerves  causing this shouldn't it of subsided by now .

The derm said to let it alone for a week or so  and see what happens if no improvement go to PCP or a neurologist and get meds for inflamed nerves

What do u think?

only other conclusion I can think of is that its just my mind playing tricks on my system and causing these symptoms just can’t believe mind can cause sores
I look forward to your opinion and will not post further after answer I think I listed all my concerns and just looking for some  solid advice and pcs of mind till 12 week to test for hsv 2 thanks..

I have no furhter opinion.   You don't have herpes, and I won't guess about other explanations.
