by nikkynakky, Jun 30, 2009 02:25PM
my boyfriend was tested today for genital warts and the nurse confirmed them to be genital warts, i have had tests and my tests were negative, im not sure if i was tested for genital warts or herpes. im just wondering if he could have caught the virus before he had ever met me, but bareing in mind he hasnt had sex with anybody in 6 years before he had sex with me, or am i just being a completly stupid idiot and the fact is that i have given them to him? im so confused and im not even sure about hpv as one site tells me it causes cancer and the other is telling me that its cureable for men but not for women! im so confused any help is truly grateful. and i know what everybody is thinking that he has cheated on me but that has already gone through my mind i just want some more answers, please im practically begging...!!

I had genital warts few years ago, it is caused by HPV.There are several types of them. Some of them cause warts and couple of them may cause cervical cancer. Yes u can cure warts and get rid of them but they can occur again some period in your life. There is no cure to get rid of the virus. The virus remains in you body.
And you might never get warts  even though your partner have them.
I got it from my bf who didnt have warts or any symptom

And he might have caught the virus many years ago before he met you as the virus can be without symptoms. But just now warts appeared. Many people who have HPV types what cause warts  acctually dont have warts. It depends on person´s immune system etc

External genital warts are not associated with cancer. They are a cosmetic issue more than a health issue.

There isn't a commercially available test for external hpv infections.  You were not tested for it.  Sometimes females are tested for hpv on the cervix with their pap but the types of hpv that cause cervical infections, generally are not the types that cause external warts.

Have you had your gardasil shots?

so could these have come from you? Well if you've had sex with someone else in the past year and your man hasn't in 6 years, odds are in favor that yes you do have it and transmitted it to you, even if you don't have signs of obvious warts. It is possible that he had it previously and this is just it reactivating ( it happens but we don't know how often that is the case ) but since it sounds like he's otherwise healthy, odds are that you already have it too.

There is a hpv forum here on medhelp you might want to post on if you have more questions other than the info we've provided already.
