hpv questions?

by lotsaquestions, Oct 03, 2007 08:45PM
I just found a wart on my penis yesterday. I made an appointment to see a dermatologist asap. I just started dating a girl about two months ago. We have been very careful about always having sex with condoms. I realize that this isn't full proof protection but i don't think that i got the hpv from her because the wart is on the head of my penis which is always covered by a condom. So i think that i probably got it from a prior sexual experience.  Anyways not the point. I am wondering what the chances are that I gave her the virus now. Like i said before we have never had sex without a condom and this is the first time I've ever had a wart on my penis (and i have had my penis checked for warts before by a doctor) so i was not showing any symptoms when we had sex. The thing i'm worried about is that she did perform oral sex on me quite a few times without a condom so does that mean that she probably contracted the virus? Does oral sex when performed on an infected male transmit the virus through the female partner's mouth?
How do I know how long I should wait before having sex again? Once my wart goes away I mean how long should I wait or do i have to wait?
After my wart is gone can my partner still perform oral sex on me if she is not infected?  what if she takes the vaccine?
I have not yet told my partner about my wart. I want to wait until after i see a dermatologist to be certain and to make sure i have all the info first. I am super scared to tell her though. She doesn't deal well with things of this nature. She gets really squeamish around needles, cuts, or scars. I'm super worried about how she'll react to me telling her that i have a wart. I'm worried she'll lose her attraction to me. Any advice?
thx

To: lotsaquestions
I noticed your thread.  I just posted another, perhaps overly graphic, thread with a ton of questions about HPV myself.  For what it's worth, I have been dealing with anal HPV and can pass on some information my doctor gave to me.  According to my doctor, genital warts is highly contagious, and my doctor even suggested that i may want to be careful cleaning my affected area because there is a possibility that i can spread HPV to MYSELF if I touch the affected area and then touch my penis.  My Doctor told me that the wart itself, or cells from the wart, have to have contact with a membrane in order to infect it.  It sounds unlikely that you gave your girlfriend vaginal warts.  The bad news is that my doctor told me that genital warts can be transmitted to the mouth.  The good news is that the appearance of genital warts in the mouth is much more rare, from what I understand.
