It is inappropriate to keep asking repetative, anxiety-driven questions on the same topic, especially when there is evidence you are ignoring all advice.  "That's all for this thread" was not an invitation to start a new one on the same topic and I deleted your new one. You will receive a warning about abuse of your MedHelp forum priviledges, which will be canceled entirely if you persist.

The MedHelp forum moderators have only a few expectations of the persons who ask questions.  But one of them is that they read our answers!

"Am I correct in assuming that the recent brief oral exposure to possible Hsv2 would not make it show up in my genitals and that autoinoculation is rare?"  I already said that. Read my original reply.

"My blood test was positive for past exposure to hsv1 but based on that blood test definately not 2. Its my possible recent risk that concerns me for hsv2."  You don't describe any exposure that suggests high risk for HSV-2; I also said that in my first reply.  Once infected with HSV-1, you cannot catch it again.

"What could cause burning?"  Yeast was already mentioned.  Lots of other, non-STD problems -- but this forum only addresses the STD issues.  This is a question for your doctor, not something this forum can answer.

If lab testing confirms that I am wrong, that you really have herpes, then please come back to let me know.  Until then, that's all for this thread.

thank you for responding to my posts, but just let me please clarify for my sanity. I have only taken one day of valtrex, today would be my second. The doctor does not know about my very brief exposure 4-5 wks ago. I just went in because I thought I may have a uti. the only reason she did a blood test is because she couldnt see yeast or bacteria and said that herpes sometimes causes burning sensations etc, but saw no lesions in exam. I had never even thought about that.I have checked thouroghly and still see no sores.

Hand-jobs do not transmit the virus.  Your doctor's opinion has to be taken seriously, if she is experienced in herpes.  However, even the world's top herpes experts frequently misdiagnose herpes before diagnostic test results become available.  Despite your doctor's concern about herpes, all a distant expert like me is to judge the probabilities based on what the questioner says.  From that, I continue to believe your symptoms are not due to herpes.  The lack of another clear diagnosis, like yeast infection, does not necessarily mean herpes is the cause, and absence of actual open sores is against it.  Also, yeast infections are not all that easy to diagnose; plenty of women with yeast have negative tests for yeast.  Finally, herpes symptoms always respond well within 2-3 days of starting antiherpetic therapy.  If your symptoms have continued more than 2-3 days after taking Valtrex, that is additional evidence against herpes.

You're going to have to continue to work with your provider on this.  If she still believes herpes is a serious possibility, you should have a blood test now and again in 3-4 months, to see if a negative result (either to HSV-1 or 2) later becomes positive.

doctor also called in valtrex for me, I have taken 2 1000 mg pills. I keep looking for lesions but do not  see anything that I think looks suspicious but I am still having odd burning sensations with no obvious cause. Thanks so much and sorrry for rattling on.

forgot to mention that I did jerk him off. If this is a hsv1 genital infection it is my first known infection. I am not at all promiscuous, this is the first stupid act outside of my 14 yr relatonship. I am freaking out but am uncomfortable in vaginal area. thank you for the help, scared and confused. what could I have? And how low are my risks.

My doctor says that I have no vaginal yeast or bacterial infection so even though she saw no initial lesion she believes that I am having a hsv1 genital outbreak since I have antibodies. during exam she saw small amount of white blood cells. It has been 8  days and I am still having burning sensations. I also tested negative for uti.

Even with prolonged oral sex, HSV-2 is not readily transmitted to the mouth.  With such brief exposure, and not even knowing your partner had HSV-2, the chance is zero or close to it.  The odds of autoinoculation to the genitals is even lower.

All things considered, genital herpes from the exposure you describe is not a possibility. And burning without sores doesn't sound like herpes anyway.

Work with your health care provider to learn the cause of your genital burning, especially if it's still going on. But you can forget herpes as a cause.  Not a chance.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
