is mono sexually transmitted

My partner had a vasectomy about 4 years ago. Two years after the surgery he  developed a rash in his left testicle. He went to the doctor just last week and we were told that it is mono and the doctor said that I probably gave it to him. The doctor asked me if i had abnormal vaginal discharge and I told him I did not. He said that I was lying and that I needed to be honest because if not we both needed to get tested for mono. I have not had any abnormal discharged like he described and only a couple of yeast infections in the past. The doctor said that after intercourse the abnormal discharge stays in his genital area and therefore the rash. However, in the past my partner had jock itch in his inner tigh. I mentioned this to the doctor but he insisted its mono and gave him a pill for the rash. My partner and I are ignorant about this subject until I researched it in the internet but I have not had my question answered. I feel terrible because my partner gives me a blaming look because of what the doctor said. Plese help me understand. Is it possible for mono to spread during intercourse?

No, it is not possible. And if the doctor really knew what he was doing and knew anything about mono he would not have given him a pill for it either. There is not cure for mono, and taking antibiotics only makes it worse. It is not transferred sexually. You can get it only from saliva, and it does not cause the symptoms your man has.

Also, mono symptoms wouldn't last for 2 years.

No, mono isn't an std, though you could certainly get it from someone you are having sex with.  Mono is spread through saliva, mucous from the mouth or nose, and maybe in tears.  I got mono from my biology lab partner in high school, and I assure you, I wasn't sleeping with him.

Mono wouldn't be causing the symptoms your man has, either.  Mono would cause a sore throat, fatigue, swollen glands and a fever - not a rash on the genitals.

What pill did he give your man?

This sounds strange to me.  Did the doctor even do a mono test?
