is there a chance

is there a chance

Dr HHH,

I have a two part problem, maybe:

First, I saw a "professional" escort last July. While with her I kissed her body, fingered her, and we kissed on the lips a little bit before I left. There was also vaginal fluid on my hand after I fingered her.--I just emailed her, however, and she was tested for HIV-STD's by her insurance company in December, which was 5 months since I saw her and all tests were negative. She was very up front and honest about being tested every three months, so I did beleive her. She even mentioned her testing day on her website and the insurance company's name.

The second "professional" I saw was the 5th of this month. All she did was give me a "hand job" while fully clothed. I did, however, kiss her body, and she kissed my body as well, but I did not kiss her on the lips, at all, for fear of catching anything.

I know from some of your archives that these are low-risk behaviors. I cannot convince my mind that this is the case. Also today, I have come down with what feels like swollen nasal and ear passages-causing a runny nose, and I had a very mild sore throte waking up this morning. Do you believe any testing for STD's should be done? I'm sure you've heard this many times on your site, but the fear of catching an STD or HIV is overwhelming me and making it hard to live day-to-day.

Thanks for your help,

Yes, the exposures you describe were low risk--basically zero risk or close to it.  You provide a superb history of typical symptoms for a cold, but not for HIV infection or any other STD.  I recommend no STD or HIV testing.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

You're not at low-risk...you are at NO risk.  ZERO. Put it out of your mind.  I repeat ZERO risk.

I know I may be, but my mind won't let me think that.

There is not "may be" about it.  No one has ever gotten and STD that way..NO ONE EVER.  And you will not be the first.  ZERO RISK.

Dr. HHH,

I'm not trying to bother you with questions, but if the risk is close to 0, (I assume you mean a very small chance) shouldn't I have STD tests? Also, I am not worried too much about the first lady, as she tested negative for all STD's 5 months after seeing her. Thanks, and I will not bother you with more questions.

There is no STD you can get from getting a hand job from a fully clothed person.  It doesn't happen.

You are reading too much into subtle wording.  Nobody ever got an STD by the exposure you describe.  If you have other risks you don't mention, getting an STD evaluation once a year might make sense, but not because of the non-exposure you describe.
