I have a recurrent case of male thrush (candidiasis) that I am dealing with. I am a 25 year old male, and generally in good health. It started months ago, both myself and my ex-partner got it at the same time, found some lists of reasons that may cause this and birth control pills she was using seemed a likely candidate. We treated with clotrimazole cream. She got better within a week and has not had any symptoms since then. In my case, the treatment seemed to work at first, but a few weeks after I stopped applying the cream it came back. I do have high blood sugar, although I not diabetic, maybe this has something to do with it. No more sex without condoms since then either. I went to a doctor and got prescribed itraconazole 100 mg, 2 a day for 20 days, plus miconazole cream. Again, it worked, but again it came back after stopping the treatment. Second time I went to a doctor I got prescribed fluconazole 200 mg, 1 pill per week for 12 weeks, plus clotrimazole cream. I have taken 5 out of the 12 pills, so 7 more weeks to go. I recently finished the whole tube of clotrimazole cream and have been using coconut oil as a substitute (read online that it worked well for male candida). The white spots were well gone within a few days of the first fluconazole pill, but for the past 4 weeks I haven't seen many changes. Penis looks and feels almost normal, but veeeery slightly red, and I don't feel any pain or itching except for a very low level of itching/pain for a few hours afer masturbation. On one hand I feel like 3 months of fluconazole should do the trick, but on the other hand I'm scared it will come back again after I finish treatment. Don't have health insurance and can't afford doctor visits in the US (very low income). Both times I went to the doctor were in latin america and were affordable.
Any information that could help would be appreciated! Thanks!
