red, itchy bumps on penis

red, itchy bumps on penis

Hello Doctor,
I have four small (about 4mm diameter) bumps on my penis.  Two are on the space where the foreskin has been removed, another is lower down on the shaft and the fourth is on the scrotum.  The bumps are red, slightly raised, firm, and slightly translucent in the middle.  They are slightly itchy, more so when my penis is erect.  I have been in a monogamous relationship for about a year with my girlfriend, however we do not use condoms when having sex.  Does this sound like jock itch or something more serious?  I have had jock itch before but never with such pronounced bumps and so high up on the penis shaft.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

It doesn't sound serious, but can't say much more.  Maybe molluscum contagiosum?? (see Warts on Legs posted 9/23 for more info).  The two where the foreskin used to be might be Tyson's periurethral glands, a normal anatomic variant--but that depends on their precise location.  You'll need to see a health care provider; or consider posting the same question on the Dermatology forum and see what Dr. Rockoff has to say.

Yes, genital warts (caused by some strains of HPV) always is a concern for genital growths or bumps of almost any kind.  But few warts would be described as "red" or "slightly translucent.  In any case, the advice stands to see a knowledgable health care provider.
