seven weeks

Seven weeks ago I had unprotected heterosexual sex with a female. I have been very paranoid about the symptoms I have had in the past week.  I first noticed a pain in the groin that ran down the the inside of my right leg - I've also had some pain in my underarms but I'm not sure if its because I'm checking my lymph nodes to see if they are enlarged. I've had a dull pain in my jaw & I've noticed a small pimple like rash mostly in the middle of my back.  I've had no fever to this point. I also think i can feel my lymph nodes but they don't seem large. Does this sound like primary hiv?

I have similar symptoms particulary burning underarms and burning on the head of my penis. i also have a burn down my leg.  A girl put her mouth on me for about 5 secs. I am scared of herpes infection. i was tested at 7 weeks and found "no sign of exposure or infection"  But symtoms still present

The symptoms you describe do not sound like primary HIV infection.  Among other things, fever is present almost 100% of the time; your symptoms began too late (typical onset 10-20 days after exposure); and the symptoms themselves are not typical (jaw, groin, and underarm pain and pimple-like rash are not suggestive of HIV).  Further, the risk of acquiring HIV from a single episode of vaginal sex is low, even unprotected, even if she had HIV (which she probably didn't).

If you should happen to have a positive HIV test, I would conclude you did not acquire it during the exposure you describe, but some other time.

Bottom line:  Relax.  You don't even need HIV testing.  However, if this reassurance still leaves you worried, have a test.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
