should I consider these tests?

by worrysalot, Oct 20, 2009 03:20PM
I have what I assume or believe to be a yeast infection. For about 4-5 months I have suffered some weird symptoms and been scared of possible STDs following an exposure around that same time. As of now, I have been using an OTC antifungal for jock itch, and it seems my problem might be fading. But more recently I have had sore spots on the bottoms of my feet, started small and red like rashy now looks large like a 50 cent piece and white/yellowish or darker. Its sore, and feels swollen to walk on, there is no itching.

Basically I am wondering if I should consider getting tested for syphilis and herpes (the only two tests I have not received)  before getting serious with a girl I have met? Atleast for comfort or peace of mind I am thinking at this point. As I am not completely confident the jock itch treatment is curing me, but it may be. Can jock itch or candida last this long? Thanks for your time and help!    (p.s. please see my past posts for in depth symptoms)

You have been told to see a Dr for your condition...so do so.

I already have...obviously with not much for results or I wouldn't be posting here. Thanks for advice though.

What did the Dr tell you and did he prescribe anything for you?

Well, while I have seen multiple doctors whom all came to different conclusions pretty much (most wanted me to use hydrocortisone, which I have and did not solve anything). The last was a dermatologist who seemed confident (for once a dr. who was sure of himself) that I would start feeling better after using ketaconazole cream, an anti-fungal, as he suspected I have a sort of sabaccious dermatitis, or something like that. Unfortunately I believe I had an allergic reaction to this cream and got VERY red and itchy on my genitals, kind of hives on the thigh too. So I quit use, and asked for a new prescription which I have yet to pick up. In the meantime though I have been using an OTC jock itch cream clotrimazole that seems to be helping the situation. And more recently I have had weird yellow/brown dry scaly/leathery patches of skin on the bottoms of my feet, that started with them feeling swollen like a reaction. Ofcourse the only std I can find related to that would be syphilis, but I doubt I have this or anything related, what I am wondering is..is it possible for jock itch or a fungus to last this long and be so constant? Its been 4-5 months now. Thanks again for your time!

I am just hoping it really is going away as I cannot mentally handle trying to get this diagnosed and cured much longer, I feel I have done everything I can 'Dr.'-wise. Its ruining my sex life.

You need to continue to follow up with the dermatologist that you evidently liked. Stop doctor shopping/hopping and settle in with one and work on finding out what is going on. did you notify them that you had a reaction to the cream you think so that they could prescribe something else?

If you know that until you test you won't rest easy then by all means get a full std screening so that you can stop worrying. You aren't having a std on your feet!

Hi Grace,

I hope you get this message, and also that its my final message on here. The hive-ish looking rash on my right inner thigh is still visible (no itching etc though), just not bright red like it was initially. Also, the other day the head of my penis became very sensitive and irritated and red, every time it would brush my boxers it would feel 'raw' and irritated. This has faded, it is no longer so irritated, just a tiny bit here and there but I think it has cleared up. After reading posts over time on here, I am still quite concerned about the possibility of herpes..do you think this is a possible explanation of my course of symptoms over a long period of time? If so, if I requested a igg herpes blood test would it give me a positive if I by chance have had 'genital' herpes on my mouth (as far as I know I have only had type 1 on my mouth, but just in case..) or would it be definitive genital herpes? I am scared to get a test, I almost dont want to know if that could be it. Any input is appreciated, I apologize for my anxious worrying in advance, but I want to be able to have a sexual relationship without worrying about passing something on in the future.
